Nah! Orbital buffers are pretty much safe when compared to traditional rotary buffers which can burn into the paint surfaces if you don't know what your doing... Orbital buffers on the other hand provide an oscillating design unlike rotary buffers which spin in a single direction... Orbitals will also stop rotating if too much pressure is applied to the surface area... This is by design as a fail safe measure to prevent burning the paint surface... In order to do any type of damage, you would literally have to increase the speed to the maximum setting and then apply maximum pressure, continuously onto the same section before doing any type of paint damage...
As long as using good common sense along with being able to properly follow the provided instructions, orbital buffers are designed to be very safe, especially for us first time DIY's...
