Are you talking about the popping on deceleration?

When the throttle snaps shut when you let off, there is raw fuel in the exhaust stream that ignites and makes the popping noises.

If you don't like it then you will need some very quiet mufflers to mask it, then you won't like the sound at WOT.

To be perfectly honest, I love it when she talks dirty to me...

My '72 Corvette didn't do it, and that was with a pretty aggressive exhaust. There's no way a Rottenchester Quadrajunk is not MORE wasteful of raw fuel than our state-of-the-art 2011 5.0s. Or is there? Sorry, but to me the popping sounds way too ricey to me.

Also, why the raw fuel in the exhaust? I thought our engines were perfectly controlled, with perfect valve overlap at all rpm.

Here's a different video of the Borla ATAK system for the 2011 5.0. I absolutely hated the way it sounded in Borla's comparison video. This video, though, has changed my mind. The ATAK system in the video below sounds awesome, IMO! It produces a very deep rumble and a smooth tone, unlike some of the other systems I've heard for the 5.0L. Maybe it's because the system in the video below is a full catback / X-pipe combo whereas the Borla video featured only the axleback? I'm not sure.

That does sound better, but there's still a lot of 'flatulence' to the sound. Love the LeMans stripes!

That does sound better indeed, they also have a vid of the Stinger exhaust on that same car.

$1700 for x-pipe and AB seems a little outragious though.

$1700 is a little steep considering Borla's 370Z exhaust is around $1600 and volume on that car is significantly lower than the Mustang. Interested to hear just the axle backs...

Borla's vid of the 3 systems is just the AB I believe.

No idea on the weight. The sound will be different but volume should be close.

Weight might be around the same considering it is an OEM part but it is just a guess. It is not gonna sound the same but I am hoping it does because then I already know what my exhaust combo will be if it does:

After listening to the clips in this thread, my favorites in order:

  1. Borla S-Type
  2. FM Hushpower
  3. Stainless Works Race (Incredible sound but definitely too loud for DD, also has headers--need a clip w/ catback only)
  4. FM Hushpower w/ OR-X (sounds great but could be way too loud for DD use).
  5. SVT Muffler
It would be great to hear each of these in-person, a youtube video can only tell you so much

The Borla catback sounds great, reminds me of the old 4Vs. I want to here the S-type with a Lethal X-pipe.

If you've ever watched a road race you've probably seen flames coming out of the exhaust from time to time on the race cars. This is the same concept just to an extreme. I'm no expert but my guess is that old Rochester of yours didn't deliver enough fuel fast enough to create this scenario.

Again just guessing...and BTW I love the decel popping!

Sounds like a plausible explanation. Thanks.

Borla S-Type catback (I'm assuming this car features Borla's X-pipe, too).

The only flaw of the Borlas, the tips are too long IMO

I was thinking that a flaw of the stock pipes was that the tips were too SHORT, and was happy Borla 'fixed' that. Now I am not so sure it wasn't right to begin with...

Yeah, but their 5.0 systems, especially the S-Type, sound amazing, IMO. And, after listening to a couple in-cabin ATAK clips, Borla's claims of new, drone-free systems are true!
