1972 Mustang Mach 1 Exterior Trim Help ???s

Hello, I am trying to hook up with the owner of a '72 Mach 1 and haven't had a lot of luck finding exterior trim codes and details.

The car I'm looking at is unrestored and has the same front end as the car on the left in the attached pic, chrome bumper and fender caps.

Can you guys point me to a trim option page that explains what is what with the chrome vs body color front pieces?

Thanks!
Frank

one on the left, looks to be a "Sportsroof" edition with Mach 1 options, vs a factory spec'ed Mach1. One on the right "appears" to be a 73. JMHO, and owner of a 72 Sportsroof.

The one on the right is not a 1973 but a 1972. The picture on the left has the 1971-72 standard and Grande grille. A chrome bumper, hood and fender moldings were used only on standard models and the Grande. Mach 1 models used the honeycomb grille with the horizontal lamps. They also had a body colored front bumper, hood and fender moldings. Chrome for those parts is not factory correct for any Mach 1 although you will see many cars refitted or restored with it in various combinations. In 1972 there was a Decor option for standard Mustangs which used the Mach 1 grille and painted lower body sides.

1973 Mustangs went to new grille designs with vertically positioned clear turn signal lamps. The front bumper was redesigned and made beefier to pass 1973 5 mph impact standards. All 1973 Mustangs had body colored front bumpers, hood and fender moldings.

This is the grille of a 1973 Mach 1...

It's easy to see in the original Ford brochures how models were factory equipped and optioned.

Here's what my 72 Sportsroof looks like (or is suppose to), vs 72 Mach 1

Thanks watchdevil. The side stripe threw me off

That helps. The VIN is a Mach 1 vin but the fenders have Mustang badging and the chrome looked incorrect. Still haven't had a chance to hook up with the owner.
Thanks for the info.

BTW, VIN is 2F05Hxxxxxx

05 is sportsroof Mach 1, correct? So if I have it right, there was a sportsroof Mustang and the Mach 1, and the Mach 1 was only available with a sportsroof body style.

Frank

EDIT:

This is NOT THE CAR, but it looks like this with the chrome on the front, same grille, and badges on the fenders.

Correct 05 = Fastback Mach1. Mine is 2F02H, just the plain jane Sportsroof.
