Question 1972 Mustang 302 coupe automatic will not start - please help

Hey folks,
Some quick history . Picked the car up last fall was running good ,a little rich but nothing serious. in the last month it has not started , it turns over but no spark.
I installed new plugs ,wires, and coil but that did not change a thing. I just swapped out the solenoid and now the starter stays engaged after the ignition key is turned off , and engine still turns over but will not start.
I have used a meter to measure current and it seems to be correct from battery , coil, solenoid etc.
I have an ECT 2000 Power Probe and chased a few wires and all seems ok .
After engine whirls over for a short time the battery cables and the coil gets warm/hot to the touch .
Any help /input would be great

Thoughts?

Cap/rotor not a bad idea. I wish I had better advice.
