1971 Mustang Mach-1 Question... Is the Intake Manifold Cast Iron or Aluminum?

I think this is way I should be asking... Excuse a non-technical guy.

Is the intake for a four-barrel aluminum or cast-iron?

I just spoke to my guy and gave him all the information you-all provided. He is pondering the information... Will do some pricing and get back to me.

In chatting the subject of exhaust(s) has started... He reports single… I want dual. What determined single vs. dual on a 1971?

If your going with factory stock manifolds, pay special attention for cracks, the were prone to cracking.
It was a single split into dual exhaust. Just make it a true dual exhaust system. Just make sure you order the rear valance with dual exhaust cutouts.
Heres a great kit.

will you have single exhaust if you think you have a 4 barrell engine .. i think not .. are you wishing to make a 2 barrell engine into a 4 barrell ?

I'm not sure I understand... I currently have a 2-B... Just pondering a 4-B.

A separate question is: What determined when dual-exhausts were on a 1971 Mach-1 from the factory?

unrealford is more versed on this model than i but the high performance models would surely have had dual exhaust and 4 barrell carbs while the lesser performance 2 barrell models would have single exhaust .. you can make a 2 barrell engine become a 4 barrell one with a simple intake and carb addition but it is deffinately different than a true 4 barrell engine .. you can also make a single exhaust system become a dual system ..

Only cars ordered with 4v option,
Like mentioned above, switch to the 4v intake and dual exhaust, but a true 4v car came with different heads and exhaust manifolds.

I had a 1971 Blue Mach-1 when I was in high-school. Now I would like one again. The one I'm working on now has been restored... To the point where theundercarriage/pans and shell is primed. Current attention to the engine. My first Mach-1 was a 351C 2-B Auto with AC single-exhaust. Statement: I lean towards the visual… Not high-performance.

So… How far from stock should I stray? Are the concerns the value if I do?

The visuals I would like to accomplish are 1) Dual-exhausts 2) Working hood air-intakes I won’t change the auto/AC. Power is not such an objective.

Thoughts?
