It doesn't matter what you like.

My point is, if cars with stock engines are nothing, its easier to buy Civic (for around $15,000), spend few grand on it, and you'll have 12 sec car.

But civics dont sound cool, or look cool. They are econo-commuter cars. Not to mention, those 4 bangers, although can be made fast, dont last nearly as long as a V8 once you have raised the compression, or added boost or nitrous.

There is a guy near me that has a plymouth horizon running 10's. But he has to rebuild twice a year, even though it is a track-only car.

Besides, front wheel drive is very difficult and expensive to get hooked up with that kind of power. My good friend has an eclipse that dyno's at 356 hp, and cant hook. He already has the posi, and all the little tricks, but he just spins. A guy we work with in a stock GT smoked him 0-60 because he cant get the power down. And he can drive, we all tried it. Once the turbo spools, she breaks loose.

I hate to bring this up, but Japanese cars have THE BEST quality of all cars. Every Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Lexus, Acura ... will run at least 200,000 miles without any problems. Enough said about 4-cyl engines. I can't say same thing about American cars. My Mustang have only 24,000 miles and I already have some problems with it. My Dodge Intrepid have around 80,000 miles and there are so many things wrong with that car. On the other hand, my mom have Toyota Camry V6 with 110,000 miles and it runs better than both my Mustang and Intrepid together.

For the part where you said that it doesn't sound or look cool, that is just your opinion. It doesn't sound or look good to me either, but try going to some Japanese cars forums and you'll hear totally opposite story.

At the track American iron holds together better period. Maybe its because americans designed cars to beat on them while the Japanese cars went after economy and yes quality. Japanese engineered cars are great,I use them for my daily commute and have for years. They will not hold at the track. You beat it you break it. Not to say that they cant design a good race car. Of course they can. But a civic dang sure isnt it.

For $10,000 - $15,000 in mods, you can make Civic as fast as any of cars.

p.c. just to be on the same page, I hate imports.

You can put 15k in a civic and it would indeed be fast. I can put 7500 of that in my mustang and take out said civic with a vengeance.

A civic (or any 4 banger) does not have the same potential of an engine of twice the displacement. Engines are air pumps more in, more out, more power, period.

True, but you can get brand new Civic for $13,000 USA.

Cheapest Mustang V8 is $24,000 USA.

Not my mustang LOL I think i gave 3k for it back in 84. Same money would make it just as fast. Now if you are comparing new cars only then you may indeed be right.

I totally agree and disagree with redstar. Listen up, for a daily driver, I have an '88 Toyota Tercel, with loads of pep, (straight pipe back to the muffler helps), tough as nails, and meanwhile getting me a best of 50 mpg. Don't get me wrong, I live and breath Mustangs, theres nothing better than hearing the roar of big cid, and raw power, while not waiting for a turbo to spool up. But yes, for the price a Civic or import with enough money saoked into it is fast. Although, you won't see Civics and Tercels being restored in 20 years, Nathan

I own a 88 GT 5.0. If anyone has a similar set up as me and they have ran their car at the track please let me know what you are running. I just want to get a general idea. Heres my mods ----> Stock 302 v8, BBK Cold Air Induction Kit, Edelbrock RPM Intake Manifold, BBK 70mm TB, MAC 1 5/8 Longtube Headers, MAC Pro-Chamber H-Pipe, Flowmaster Mufflers. If anyone has an idea of what I would run please feel free to comment.
I'll ball park a 14.0 for a 1/4 mile time for your car. I have an 89 LX notchback (an easy 500lbs lighter than your GT) with the Flowmaster exhaust and 3.73 gears but otherwise stock and it ran a 14.0@99mph at the track with massive wheelspin in 1st and 2nd. Your car would probably launch better due to the higher weight, especially over the rear end where the heavy glass hatch is situated, but with power to weight being close for our two cars, similar e.t.s should result.
