I don't know what to do. I think I can change them myself, but I have no idea what to buy. AM has some but I'm not sure I want to wait til thee middle of next week to drive my car.

Left rear brake is scraping really bad. I think my brake pads are gone. How long are they supposed to last? They were just changed about a year and a half ago and it's not like I do a lot of really heavy braking. I was gonna go to my brother's tournament game, but I guess not now unless I want to leave the notch sitting by itself in a parking lot.
Brakes arent that hard to change just got to do it slow and make sure you pay attention to where everything goes and how everything is routed. Also you should have the drums checked to make sure they arent wore past the limits and turned. Turning them puts a "rough" surface and makes them flat again with no grooves.

Nathan if there is scraping then it might also be an indicator that is on some brakes to let you know that the pads are getting low.

It's all disc brakes. I took the wheels off and everything already and there's really not much left of my pads. I'm waiting for my dad to come home and then we'll go out and get some new ones. I think I should be able to change them myself. Would it be ok to have them turned later this week? I can't really be without my car.
On my F150 I've replaced pads many times without turning the rotors. Within a couple of drives they are seated.
Remember you'll need a 'C' clamp or special brake clamp to reopen the caliper pistons so the new thicker pads will fit, and you'll have to remove some brake fluid either with the bleed screw or from the reservoir. My F150 bleed screws are so frozen I just use a cheap turkey baster to remove some fluid out of the reservoir - always careful not to introduce air to the brake lines.

What I do is I put a big C-Clamp on it with the threaded part going into the piston snug at first. Then I open the bleeder screw and turn the C-Clamp till the piston is all the way in. Then I close the bleeder screw and then remove the C-Clamp. You dont want to remove the clamp before you close the bleeder screw cuz if you do you will get air in the line and that will take the job longer cuz you would have to bleed the brakes then. The only thing I do after changing the pads is maybe add a little bit of brake fluid and thats it. No bleeding neccessary

PS: Don't the rear pads screw in that require a special tool? Or is that just the S197's? Seems like I remember threads about that and many auto parts places rent the tool pretty cheap.

You know I didnt think about that. When I changed the brakes on the hummers in the Army I just used a big cresent wrench or a Ford wrench.

I think the article I posted said the rears need a special tool to compress the piston. I'll see if I can get something when I go to get the pads.
