I'll be doing a 400 mile trip in about a week from Massachusetts to Maryland. In the past i've only stopped once in Joisey for gas. Even 400 miles has taken me about 9 hours with traffic through Connecticut, the George Washington Bridge, and the NJ Turnpike. And that's just taking my time doing 70mph.

One tip I can offer is to take your wallet out of your pocket. Depending on your seats and your pants pockets, sitting on it for an extended time could get uncomfortable.

Also, glass cleaner and paper towels/cleaning towels. Bugs splatter and some are big and messy where the wipers and washer just don't cut it. Bug guts at eye level is not fun to look at!

 

Great tip on the wallet. I didn't think about it because I bought a carry-all bag several years ago so I have NOTHING in my pockets and can easily carry everything I need to take with me.

 

A European carry all?

 

It's a 'man purse' yeah that's what it is!

 

I got the idea after seeing a number of men in Europe with them. I found one made in the USA in leather. It's just big enough to hold my wallet and a change holder, my reading glasses in a case, a brush, a notepad and pen, a packet of kleenex, my cell phone, a small bottle of hand sanitizer, a small tube of lotion for my wife (she usually has some of her own, but it fits so why not), and business cards. If I had a concealed carry permit I suspect I could fit a small automatic in there as well.

It's sufficiently masculine looking that the only comments I've ever had in several years and a lot of travel have been positive. In any event, I couldn't care less what anybody else thinks about it. It works great for me and that is all that matters. That and the fact that my hip no longer hurts from having my wallet in my back pocket and sitting on it for long drives.

Just joshing with ya tukatz! That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with Castansa's fat wallet gosh that was hysterical and reminds me of my own wallet! :-)

 

I rarely watch TV, but thanks. My wallet isn't even that thick, but it sure played hell on my hip on long drives. Not to mention what it did to a good leather wallet. The one I have still has the curve from being in the back pocket, but has lasted just fine out of the pocket.

 

it's easier to get to cash if you need it for tolls as well

 

From Maine to Virginia, this is the best bet! Just fly right through!
