GT350S Testing at Watkins Glenn
GT350S Testing at Watkins Glenn
Hey Cody, the white Mustang featured in the WGI video is obviously the new Mustang (relative to those currently in the Continental Series races), but how do you know this model is a GT350S? Possibly a GT race prepared, GT350R, GT350RC.....
Just asking ......
Just asking ......
I don't. I thought that the plan was that Ford was building the GT350S for the Continental Series. Is that not true? My apologies for any inaccuracies from my assumption.
Thanks Cody and I was not meaning my question to be rude. Just inquisitive as to if you knew the new GT350 race version was designated a "S".
The Boss and Boss LS were "VIN" cars designed to be driven and titled for commercial street use. The "race" versions of the Boss were the 302S (approx. $80K) and 302R (approx. $130K) versions. And these vehicles were "part number" cars (they had no VIN) and thus are not titled vehicles and were not supposed to be driven on the street.
I believe the Continental race series uses the Boss 302R models. Slight differences between the S and R one of which is the use of a fuel cell on the R whereas the S has the regular Mustang gas tank. I am sure there are other differences as well to arrive at the higher price tag. And I believe you may soon see this race series change over to the new GT350 platform cars.
The soon available GT350 and GT350R vehicles will also be VIN cars. It seems reasonable that Ford Total Performance will introduce (at some future time) "race" versions of the GT350 which also will be part number vehicles. It is presently unclear how these vehicles might be identified but may (or may not) follow the same S/R nomenclature as was used for the Boss series Mustangs.

No worries, Thanks for the insight! I don't have any inside knowledge on the matter, I was just observing what I see. They do look awesome!
My thought process was that since the GT350R will be VIN a street car, then I thought a race version would be the S by process of elimination... but I could be totally wrong!
