Ford Is Making the Shelby GT350 Even Better

Ford is planning to upgrade the 5.2-liter Voodoo V8. And they are working on three new transmissions as well.

This is kind of a non-story. All engines listed say "with upgrade" which probably just means there will be further development as opposed to just being end-of-lifed. I don't think that means that there will be any sort of significant redesign or spec changes and, if anything, probably nothing until near an S550 mid-cycle refresh.

The A/T was available in the 66-70 Shelby GT350/GT500. I'd be proud to own any one of those, regardless of tranny. I see no problem with an auto S550 GT350.

Don't be too quick to dismiss an automatic transmission. Did anyone bother to read the instrumented tests of the 2016 Camaro? The auto is considerably faster than the stick. It's not just the Camaro--it is a trend across multiple brands. More speeds and faster shifts = better performance. Technology is a wonderful thing (when it works).

So for the people who ordered, are they getting the refined version or the current raw version?

Depends what kind of automatic you're talking about. DSG'S and PDK'S are awesome transmissions but we don't usually get those types in PONY cars. I'll take your word for it on the Camaro.

I wonder what they mean by "upgrade"?
Upgraded transmission or upgraded engine power/torque? They left that door wide open.

Neither. The document doesn't reference anything GT350 specific at all aside from the 5.2 engine itself and is just a prospectus essentially for the next five years. This is just overly-eager bloggers and forum owners trying to drum up a "story".
