Was visiting my local dealer the other day and noticed they had a white 50th anniversary Mustang on the floor. I was shocked at the asking price. Is this normal?

The two at i looked at in charlotte are for sale for under $46k

I have only seen one 50th in our entire part of the State, in Rapid City, and they also want $20,000 over MSRP. It is Kona Blue and I would have gone for it, and then I saw the ADM...crazy.

 

The ones I have found in MN are all about $12-$15k over invoice price too. For that much od a dealer mark-up, I will be satisfied without the extra 50th anniversary stuff on it.

 

Exactly...you can do a lot of extra **** to your mustang for $15K


but somebody that has it to flaunt will buy it for what it is and in 10 years will expect it to be worth 100K

 

It happens. When the 2005's debuted, a local dealer here was adding about 5k over sticker.

If I could spend that kind of money on a toy, it would be something more like the GT350 that is coming. But I think that is a little much even for that car. I figure they will probably not get what they are asking. Sure they want to push it up as high as possible since these are possible collector cars. Just seems like gouging, guess you have to really want this one.

 

I'm the intolerant type I guess... but I wouldn't buy ANYTHING from a dealer that was playing that kind of game.

 

When I bought my 2015 GT PP, they had two Wimbledon White 50th Anniversary Mustang GT's in stock.

The dealer, Westway Ford in Irving, Texas, greedily told me they were asking for $20,000 over MSRP. I just checked to see if they still had them, which they do, and it looks like over the internet they have backed down a little, now asking $9,000 over on the Automatic, and $4,000 over on the Manual.

This is common enough that I bet there are more dealers that perform markups than there are dealers that don't.

I've read several posts on different Mustang forums where people paid sticker price for their 50th's, so it's definitely possible to get one without markup.

 

I had similar thoughts. Although I've grown to like the S550 and could see myself owning one someday, I don't like it enough to fall into the "instant collectible" trap. The only thing that really turns me on about the 50th LE is the exclusitivity of the Wimbledon White paint. That's my favorite Mustang color of all time. But I could get a professional repaint If I wanted that color badly enough for less than the ADM.

It remains to be seen if the LE will increase that much in value, and if it does, I'll be taking a dirt nap by that time. I don't see much sense in paying for steak and just getting sizzle. That's my personal opinion and I don't mean to detract from those nineteen hundred and sixty four owners who do buy one. It's their choice and their money, but I can guarantee that I'll be fawning all over one the first time I see a 50th at a car show or cruise night.

Now, a GT350....well that could be a different story....call it bragging rights!!!

What is the difference between the anniversary edition and a reg GT?

 

Badging, interior, exterior chrome bling, one-off Kona Blue or Wimbledon white, 50th Anniversary plaque, and about $20,000!!!!

 

The Anniversary GT is a mix of some parts from Premium Package and Performance Package, plus some unique parts.

- quarter windows
- wheels
- unique two-tone interior
- engine turned dash like the Performance Package except in Silver
- owners manual in leather folio
- unique stitching on the steer wheel and floor mats
- 3.55 rear gear ratio
- Automatic or Manual transmission

If you are looking to get a 2015, and can get one of the 50th Anniversary's for close to, or at MSRP, pick one up, they are a fantastic purchase option.

 

My Ford dealer in Nevada has +$15k for Anniv Edition. Nuts. But hey, $5k cheaper than some of the others! Ha!

 

My dealership is still at sticker for theirs. :-)

It's only a $22,999 dealer-pocketed mark up because it's 'special'.

1964 copies aren't really all that special, y'know. Oh, sure, there's 'only' the 1964 copies, but really... 500 is more special. 10 is definitely special.

Get a regular GT and enjoy it more. Let them stew for puttin' a 40% markup on that.

10%? Sure. That's only 51K. Semi-reasonable. Still gouging, but hey... it's *special* remember?



Gottahavititis is a thing, and that's what it's aiming for.

 

Personally, I dont like wasting big money on same item I could get for way cheaper, but all you get is couple of badges, some number from 1 to 1964, different wheels plus small changes in few trim pieces, and paint. At this point I dont know why would someone want to pay more 50+ or even 60 grand, where you can get better cars for that price ( corvette, upcoming GT350, hellcat).
Even for MSRP thats crackpipe money to me.
