Where is the SD Card Slot??
#3
Hi
I have a 2016 ford GT premium, but I believ the SYNC is version 2. i spoke to the dealer here in Dubai, and they said the SD card is inside the unit/behind the console...and would charge me almost $1000+ labour to replace it!!
So first thing is to find where the SD card is and fix this navigation problem then the other would be to upgrade to version 3 (if that is possible).
I have taken some pics of the unit showing the messages that I get.
help would be appreciated as I'm not getting much support from the ford dealership

You have the earlier version of Sync (1 or 2). That is the same GUI I had on my 2013 and 2015 Explorers. I also have a 2016 GT Premium but it has Sync 3 and I cannot find any reference to an SD card in my manuals.

LOL I wish I could go back to the earlier versions of Sync as I liked the personalization features and other niceties that you do not get in Sync 3. As far as I can tell you cannot upgrade to the latter as the earlier versions of Sync were from Microsoft and Sync 3 is made by RIM the makers of Blackberry.

Thanks Dr Plastic.
I will try and remove the "shaker" panel...but somewhat doubtful.
It's a shame that I won't be able to upgrade to SYNC 3...what t should be there as standard!
Is it possible to upgrade the maps myself?

There is nothing under the "Shaker" panel but screws. Sync 3 sucks. I wish I could go back to Sync 1/2. I think you can upgrade the maps buy you have to buy them from Ford.

By looking at your pictures, you do not have Sync 3. It must be either 1 or 2. I know this as that is the same GUI or home screen I had in my '13 Explorer XLT and my '15 Explorer Limited.
This is the home screen for cars with Sync 1 and 2:
If you had sync 3 it would look like this:
There must be an SD card slot in the front wall of your armrest cubby.

Thanks for the link SpectreH, I found the same in my search and frustrations to find out what the hell is going on.
And thanks Dr Plastic (again!) appreciate the help!
Turns out (after being at the ford garage for over an hour), my car is a 2015 build and was made with SYNC 2...so the SD card is within tr unit. The only way to access it is to remove the centre console and gain access to the HU! Which only ford can do out here!! Said that the SD card seems to have been damaged in the head...i hope tr SD card is under warranty, as the guy said it might not be....
Can someone confirm this for me?
