Found this between a 2015 and 2014 and the 2014 GT is pulling away.
Still true?

Still true? if so why would Ford take such a backwards step?

weight of the car most likely if we can assume driver was not at fault, that extra 15hp not enough for the added 80lbs,( around +150-200pounds with the Performance package from the last thread we had around here about weight of both of the cars)
all manuals:
Stock S197 is 3622 lbs, stock S550 is 3705 lbs, S550 with PP is around 3796 - 3816 lbs.

There are several videos of Ford Performance showing what it will take to make the new Fustang competitive with the old. The entire rear cradle has to be re worked with new bushings and the half shafts need to be beefed up. There is more parasitic loss in a independent rear set up than a Solid Axle. This is why I ordered a 2014. I wanted to go Fast.

Would love to see those Ford videos, couldn't find.

Wouldn't getting a tune, a new cold air intake or other less extreme measures get the new GT's to equal the stock 2014s?

Stock for stock the S197 will edge out the S550 in straightline acceleration (for the reasons already stated), but the S550 takes the advantage on the road course.

It is a driver's race. The refinement alone is worth getting the 2015. I rode in a friend's 2015 Power Pack GT and it is much better than the 2014, and by much, I mean, 100% improvement. Not to mention a beefed up bottom end and brakes. A better car all the way around. I do prefer the exterior look of the 2014 though.

Couldn't disagree more. I have a 14 GT TP and a buddy of mine who works for Ford had a 15 GT PP for the weekend. Both manual 3.73s. We spent the whole weekend beating the snot out of both cars. Mine was faster and "sharper" to use his terminology. Sure the 15 was smoother and quieter and all that BS. But when it came to "what do you want to drive home" both me and my buddy picked my car. And that was BEFORE my suspension upgrades!

So yes, the 14 IS faster than the 15/16 in street settings. It is also far more fun to drive. 15 is more refined and civilized... but who buys a 430hp sports car to be civilized??

I have to agree with 5.0 monster. I have a modded 2012 Mustang GT. I'm gone up against a slightly modded 2015 performance package at the track and beat him every session.

Plus knowing what I do about your car it probably sounded a lot better doing it! And driver mod may have had a little to do with that outcome as well!

I'm dying to go up against some S550's this season. Last season there were more Camaro 1LEs and Z28s at the track I go to than S550. Plenty of S197s though.

I have not had a S550 keep up with me on the road course, auto cross or drag strip!
Might be driver, might not!

same engine, a little heavier. I hope you aren't saying that with mods the new one couldn't make up for being a little heavier???

Stock for stock yes the s197 is faster (usually). But the s550 engines are not the same as the s197; the 550 have much stronger internals so the mod potential is definitely stronger with the 550 platform. Lots of people making 650-700 rwhp with various FI kits on the market.

Unless you're tracking or dragging your Mustang, does it really matter all that much which year is quicker?

There are plenty of 2005-2012 GT owners with Mustangs to-die-for who aren't complaining.

There are at least 3 people on this thread alone who do track their Mustangs. So to some it does matter. But I do see your point.
