5.0 3.15 REAR END. mpg?

Debating buying a 22 5.0 convertible. Auto trans 3.15 gears. I know we don't buy 5.0's with gas mileage a major concern. Reason I'm asking is wife and I take quite a few road trips in our Eco automatic with 3.31 gear, and interstate mileage is 30+ most times. Just wondering what honest mpg is on the 5.0? Convertible if it matters

I bet you can get close to the same mileage, as long as you keep your foot out of it. There is no huge inherent efficiency difference between the engines. The big difference is that the 5.0 CAN suck down a lot more fuel, to deliver the performance that it is capable of. But if you keep the RPM's down and the throttle light, you can probably get within a few MPG .... the body has the same aerodynamics (pretty close) and total weight of the car is close to the same.

They are probably a bit pessimistic, in the GT350 I can knock down much better mileage even doing 70-80 mph and after recently completing a 2200 mile trip (VA-DE-VA-PA-TN-VA) with mostly highway mileage I was averaging about 24 mpg and when I was in the hilly part of northwestern PA I still managed 22 mpg with the trans in 5th gear most of the time on that part of the trip. On the last GT350 the mileage was better since it had Super Sports instead of Sport Cups and doing 55 to 60 in that car on level ground, I would see almost 30 mpg on the highway.

The GT350 along with the Sport Cups runs a 3.73 final drive with a .63 OD and at 75 mph it's turning around 2200 rpm. An GT with a 3.15 final drive and the A10 will be turning just a little less than 1900 rpm at 75 mph and with say a Pilot Sport 4S it should easily see comparable or better mileage and I wouldn't have a hard time believing at 75 the car would be knocking better than 24 mpg and over 30 mpg down around 65 or so mph.
