Ford Freaking Out About the EcoBoost

Ford hasn’t even begun selling the new Mustang and they think they already have a problem with it. No, it’s not a recall or anything actually wrong with the car, but Ford believes that dealers are going to have a real problem selling the four-cylinder turbo EcoBoost Mustang; so much so that they have begun to send out trainers to show the salespeople how to sell this car.

That's what happens when you try to force an engine on people at a higher cost, with added complexity, and little to no benefit.

Or they gave spiffs to dealers who sold EB F-150s and dealers ordered dozens of EBs and 3.7s with a handful of 5.0s and 6.2s sprinkled in...can't very well buy a V8 if there's none on the lot.

That's what I've said from the very beginning, the eco 4 is overpriced.

Terrible article linked to another terrible article. No solid facts that point to ford "freaking out" our that they will have trouble selling it.

The **** thing has barely been available to the masses yet. WHO WRITES THIS CRAP.

I agree. This is a very annoying trend on TMS. It's a non-story with a sensationalist headline.

C'mon TMS, I expect better

When the Nissan leaf came out I read articles about the new tech and even a story on how Nissan had to change the shape of the head light and side mirrors to reduce wind noise. Those kind of facts and "fun" stories add to the customer knowledge base and make for a better customer base. All the stories or should I say a lot of the new mustang ones talk more about feeling and opinion then basic facts. Ford and the media SHOULD be writing and informing about the tech and features. Fact based articles shouldn't be peppered in...

I think there is some truth to this though. Check out the lease rates on the EB Mustang, very attractive.

Relax,, This is all part of the sales process. SAles people need to know what the features an benefits are for any give product. I work for a large world wide manufacturer of Electronics. We do this every year. We also have all the car company's and they all do this. Sales Education LOL You can always tell how something is selling by the rebates..

Ford will maximize their profits by selling as many EBs as possible, here and overseas, to offset the development costs. If the new EB flops in the US, Ford will shift production to the other 2 engines and provide what consumers want. It makes sense for Ford to educate their sales force to get a return on their investment.

I have talked to plenty of sales reps over the years, from many different companies. A few good ones, a few dorks, and then a big pile of average. The sales training is targeted at the fat part of the bell curve here, so Ford can show that the EcoBoost is a 'success' and not an EcoDud.

"Ford is 'freaking out' " is a tabloid hook, designed to increase web traffic. Don't be surprised to find a bunch of nothing if you take the cheese and click through the link only to be disappointed later. You should know that the bag of chips in the vending machine is 75% air, just as these staff teaser links are.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

These "articles' are like the CNN of automotive news. It's hilariously bad.
