Nitto NT555 G2 Review/Thoughts

Just got my Nitto NT555 G2 tires installed today. Will use this thread to post my thoughts on them as time progresses. Tires are stock 255/40/19 size on my V6 perf pack wheels. Only mods that matter are a tune.

Initial Thoughts
Previous tires were stock Pirelli summer tires. Didn't like them, not awful tires but not great. They were at the wear bars when the Nittos were installed, and were LOUD. 555's are very quiet in comparison, at least for a summer tire.

Spun them a few times at stop lights to try and get the tread nice and clean and any mold residue and such gone. They were certainly a little slick for the first few miles. After that they seemed to grip quite well. Just a little spin when launching hard at about 3K RPMs. Stopping was also quite good, I still feel like I got off a roller coaster after the last panic stop...

Turn in is HUGELY improvement over the Pirelli's. Not sure if that's just the difference in tread depth between the two or what, but it's instant with the 555's and it made the Pirelli's feel like winter tires. Also no apparent tread squirm, which I usually notice with new tires. Perhaps the cooler weather is keeping the rubber a little hard still.

Comfort wise I am rather impressed for a summer tire. Noise is good for what it is, and ride comfort is very good. They also look real nice...not that it really matters...but the tread has a neat look it, and the sidewalls look clean and "slick".

Will post more as I rack up some more miles.

Thanks for the review, looking forward to an update after you get some more miles. This is the tire I plan on getting soon as well to replace the stock Pirellis. I just have to decide if I am going to get rims or keep the stock Brembo wheels.

Glad to hear positive review. I should be installing mine next weekend, pretty excited to experience what these tires can do. Hoping to finally put some power to the ground!

I've only put about 100 miles on mine, but I'm really happy with them. 255/35/20 up front and 275/35/20 out back. Haven't been able to lose traction yet (wasn't trying super hard) and they handle great. Didn't notice any road noise, but I've got pretty loud exhaust.

Do you have any pics of them on your car? If i do get new wheels I would go with 20's too. I know the 255/35/20 on the front is pretty much the same overall diameter as the stock Brembo wheels/tires. On the back I am going back and forth between 275/30/20 & 275/35/20. They are both about .5x shorter or taller than stock. I want to keep the overall diameter as close as possible to stock.

I wish they made the NT555 G2's in 295/30/20.

I would definitely go with the larger sidewall. Helps fill in the wheel gap slightly better and the ride on 20s is going to be a bit harsher.

This is on Steeda Sports.

And ... as you may or may not know ... Steeda had an extensive part in helping Nitto test & further develop the NT555 G2

Definitely go bigger than a 30 sidewall. That's gotta be ROUGH unless you live somewhere with great roads.

After a few more miles I'm finding lateral traction is great, straight line grip is good not great. They don't spin too much but I can definitely feel them slipping a bit when I really hit it from a stop. Can't wait to see how these do in rain.

Heard these perform even better in wet than dry. This confuses me somewhat, but I guess its a good thing? Hmm.

My g-force comp 2 by BFG were the same way. Just unreal in wet weather.

Thanks for the pics. I like the way your car sits. Do you know the offset of your rear rims?

Yes I did see that! They should compliment my other Steeda mods nicely.

I'm in Long Island NY so the roads are far from great. This is not my daily drive and it only comes out on nice days so that helps a bit but you are right dodging potholes is not fun.

Would you say the straight line grip is better than stock?

Same with the Coopers I had. They were good when it was dry, but jaw dropping amazing when it was raining. I would just shake my head when I'd put my foot down in the rain and it would grip!

Yes. These are better in every way over stock.

The rear wheels are 20x10 and +40mm for offset. They're the downforce DF5s that LMR carries.

I was fortunate to sample the Nitto 555 G2 tires that were exclusively provided by Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc. while driving my 2015 50th anniversary LE mustang in exchange for an unbiased review. First of all, I noticed right away how much feedback I felt in the steering as compared to the Pirelli and Continental DW tires. Not that they are bad tires but the Nitto 555 G2 felt to me more in touch with the road. Like it has fingers that could feel every inch of surface. There were several things I noticed in regards to positive performance such as cornering, braking, acceleration and road noise after only driving a few hundred miles. These tires are so quiet compared to the pirelli's! If you are looking for a summer tire that want break the bank I must say so far this is the best bang for the buck.

I will give an update after I have had time to put more miles on the tires.
