Front Tried / Rear Tires. Are they equal?

I bought a set of Mickey Thompson 305/35/20 for the rear of my pony for Xmas. I was looking for a set for the front but decided to mix it up, so I purchased Nitto 555 Extreme Performance 275/35/20 for the front. I have never gone mix match on tires before and wanted to get your fed back. Does the front and rear tires have to be the same make and spec?

I bet no one is sure. Since no one recommends this, I wouldn't do it.

It depends on what you are doing. The reason for matching tires is so all four have similar grip characteristics. If they don't, one set will lose traction long before the other set does, and this can cause the car to slide.

It's important if you track your car on a road course or auto x, but for drag racing it shouldn't be a problem. I also wouldn't do it on the street, unless you are driving very conservatively.

Since nearly all the grip is needed at the rear tires when drag racing, the fronts really don't matter.

All this is especially important when driving in inclement weather.

I can tell u that the 2015s with the Performance Package have front & rear tires with the same diameter (20" Summer tires), but the rear tires are a half inch WIDER than the front tires.

This doesn't allow for full (and proper) tire rotation but it shouldn't effect driving performance otherwise. It's more of a "look" thing unless u're taking it to the track.

Hope this little bit helps.
