Question Will a removed strut tower bar be a problem?

I have a 2010 GT Convertible and planning on getting the Shaker system.

http://www.americanmuscle.com/cdc-shaker-10gt.html

If I remove the strut tower bar to install it will this cause problems with my suspension down the road like wearing tires and things of that nature.

I plan on getting this but do not have the money to buy both at the same time.

You'll be fine....

It's a "flashy" thing, no real improvment to be had.

Very cool! The Shaker system will look great. I loved the Shaker system on my 2004 Mach 1. There's something about stabbing the throttle and seeing that thing throw back that's really cool!

You can definitely run the Whiteline brace with that set up. You won't have any issues if you remove the strut tower brace!

Hope this helps!

You'll be all right. Unless you remove all 4 strut bolts each side, you are OK.

removing all 4 bolts wouldnt matter as long as its on the ground while you do it. either way hes got to put all the bolts back before he drives it though.

Is that true? Anyone have any evidence of this?

I am getting two different answers here. Can I get more details to support your comments? I will not do anything to harm the suspension of my car for just looks and a minimal performance gain.

They're effing with you. You wouldn't even notice if the brace is on or off. Many Mustangs are produced without one.

Sounds like some of you guys feel you are better automotive engineers than the ones at Ford. I suspect there was a reason they put strut tower braces on all convertibles and some of the other Mustangs (I can't recall which ones off hand). I can't imagine they put them on just for looks.

Yes but there is a difference between a slight performance gain and a key component to the suspension geometry, if that is case I will save and get the below.

http://www.americanmuscle.com/whitel...race-0510.html

Then I will not have to worry about it. My question is the shock tower brace a key component since it is a convertible because I know that most coupes did not come with one?

Convertibles are inherently less rigid than coupes. I suspect that is why Ford puts the strut tower brace on all convertibles.

Deysha, can you help with this question?

I assumed so as well. That is why I am warry of doing this mod. I might do something else.

If you aren't tracking your car and just use it to cruise around then I wouldn't really worry about the torsional rigidity of your front end.

I have the same bar on my coupe. I have the optional 19" wheels. I seem to recall that it was there to help in the management of the suspension because of the extra weight from those wheels.

I haven't seen any in-depth explanations that talk about the torsional rigidity changes might upset the suspension. However, the Boss 302 used this same piece, and the '11 GTs and up use a strut tower brace as well.

For cruising, like posted above, it might be OK without it.

Since getting my shaker installed and running it without the strut brace for over a year. I have no unusual tire wear and it handles fine.
