My 2013 Mustang GT with brembo package is going to need some new shoes soon. I was looking at all seasons so I can drive more confidently during fall and early spring. I'm debating between the Cooper Zeon RS3-A or the Contential Extreme Contact DWS. Anyone have any experience with these tires? The Coopers are a couple hundred dollars cheaper but don't seem to be as highly rated as the Continentals. Any other tires suggestions?

 

Most people I have seen have good things to say about the DWS. I got the Pilot Sport AS+. The new AS3 version is supposed to be even better. A friend of mine has them on his '13 Shelby here in Germany and we both drive in the snow without issue. They plow and salt the roads reliably here though. Even on snow I haven't been stuck anywhere. Driver skill comes into effect though. In the dry I love them more than the Pirelli's. I went 275/40/19 squared on the 9" Track Pack wheels and I have the Torsen with 3.73 differential.

The Cooper RS3-A is a very good choice and I would have liked to keep mine, but they weren't going to fit my wider wheels swap. I don't have any first hand experience with the DWS tires.

 

Michelin pilot sport A/S 3 is an excellent tire. Just bought a set for my GTCS.

 

I'll have to look at the A/S 3 then. They do seem fairly pricey.

My stock summer pirellis seem to break loose fairly easily. Do your guys all season tires break loose easier than the stockers?

 

That's exactly what I want to do.

 

The Pilot Sports break away when you expect them to. The Pirellis either axle hop or break after or before you are expecting them to.

 

I have the Cooper RS3-A's and am very happy with them, especially in the rain they are a huge improvement over stock.


I've had the Conti's before but on another car, but I really prefer the Coopers...

 

Conti DWS, some how better even on the track then the stock Pirelli's.

 

The Pirelli's take a lot to get hot. The compound is much better suited for our cars with the DWS. The Pilot Sports are worth every penny.

 

The Pilot Sports and Conti DWS are both excellent tires. I was amazed with what I could get away with on the Michelins, including in light snow. The Continentals haven't let me down yet, although I haven't pushed them as hard as the other tires I've had (I'm getting old I guess)

 

I'm heavily leaving toward the Coopers. It seems to be the best balance between cost and performance.

After much research, I wanted a tire that didn't feel like I was riding on concrete rollers like the PZero Neros, so I picked up the Hankook Ventus S1 noble 2. Great decision. Now rides like a true GT should in my opinion, quiet and without bounce but yet grips the road. Before, I thought the springs and shocks should be changed but the tires are like having a new suspension. I have the stock Boss front springs, rear 55D, Koni yellows all the way around and the stock 18" premium wheels.

 

Tire opinions are somewhat like opinions on oil.... That said, I have a set of Cooper RS3-A's on a '14 GT/perf pack, and a set of Conti DWS's on a '07 Mazda MX-5/Miata. So -- side-by-side comparison, sort of, given the differences in vehicles.

Both are excellent tires on dry pavement and in the rain and snow. IMO, the Coopers have a stiffer sidewall that flexes less in cornering. The Coopers are also wearing better than the Conti's -- which is surprising, since the Miata weighs 1300 lbs. less than the Mustang GT. And the Coopers were cheaper.

I haven't been disappointed with the Conti's at all, but right now I'd tend to replace them with a set of Coopers.

 

Coopers. Ran them on my GT and loved them in all seasons and conditions including light snow. Grip was great, cornering was great, rode quiet, felt confident. No complaints.

 

I run Coopers in the winter, best choice if you are trying to balance cost vs performance, I would buy them again.

 

I went ahead and bought the Coopers a few moments ago. Discount Tire Direct had a 50 dollar rebate on them.

 

We had a 'ice storm' a few days ago. I just went up a hill that was solid ice with my Cooper Zeon RS3-A's, (255/45-18) didn't slip a wheel. I was really shocked

 

That's actually very impressive. You live down south? I'm shocked that they would do that well. I'm scared to drive in the snow with them!
