Popping noise coming from rear suspension.

Hi, I been having some bad luck with my '12 mustang gt. I have the oem 18x8 wheels and tires, everything else is stock. The dealer swapped out my front lower control arms 4 times, but it didn't fix the creak from the bushings. I kind of just learned to deal with it. So now there is a popping sound coming from the rear wheels. The noise in the rear is different from the front lower control arm creak, this is more of a popping noise. This squeak/popping noise occurs going over any speed bump and small/big pot holes in the pavement. Anyone have an idea what this could be? do you think a simple lube of the rear suspension components will take care of this pop noise?

Will, you have the worst **** luck with your car. Rear suspension noises seem to be commonly either A) the rear sway bar end links/bushings or B) the weatherseal around the trunk. I'd have your dealer check those out first.

Our 2012 6'er had the same issue. Took it to the dear and it ended up being one of the rear swaybar endlinks.

what was wrong with the rear sway bar end link? dried up bushing? I don't have any time to take my car to the dealer right now cause of my work schedule. If I can wait till the summer that'll be ideal, but I don't want to damage the car more by waiting.

I honestly don't know. I own the car, but the gf is the one who drives that car. It was under warranty, so I told her to take it in. They said they replaced the endlinks and that was the end of it.

I do know that none of the factory bushings are geaseable on the S197s, so there's not much you can do other then replace them.

Waiting wouldn't do damage (provided it's just bushings), as long as you can deal with the noise.

Hey Will3212,

Please PM me with your dealer and best daytime number so I can escalate this for you again.

They need to replace the rear sway bar. I had the same problem also. Now no noise at all!

interesting. i've had probably a similar issue on my '13 gt. in some places i'd expect to hear it, i don't like over a speed bump. seems to me it would happen over small but bumpy snow covered roads going as little as 5mph. dealer replaced left rear strut, then the endlink. i believe i still have it, but it's been a little warmer (30's d F) and not really any snow so no washboard. popping sound could definitely define the noise i hear (and the dealer tech). i have been thinking of it as more a "hollow clunk". i'm living with it for now, but will bring it back in in a week or so when i have them mount my new wheels/tires. dealer has been very good for me so i'm not worried.

They are saying it's the bushing on one or both of the arms/brackets that are on the rear sway. I'll add pics and details when it's done

Exactly what they replaced on the 6'er. Not sure weather it was the top or bottom that went bad as they just replaced the whole piece.

If it was the bushings couldn't it be fixed by just re-greasing them?

I know they have zerk to add grease but I bet you could pack them a little with new grease.
