New Wheels What Size Help Please
New Wheels What Size Help Please
I am buying new wheels for my 2014 GT. They are 20 X 9 or 20 X 10. Whats the best size. I can go either 20 X 10 in the rear with 20 X 9 up front or go with 20 x 9 all around. Tne what is the largest tire I can put on each with out hitting? Any suggestions please? Pictures?
I have 19's on mine, 9 inch all around on mine with 275/40 19 with no rubbing anywhere, but that depends on the offset the wheels are. Mine are a 42mm with clearance all around on the front.
285/35-20 is probably the largest you can go in the front. 275-35-20 for the 9" wide rims.
On the back you might be able to do 305/30

If you are going to use the same tires all four corners, the 9s for all.
If you are going to stagger and use a wider tire in back, the 10s in back, 9s in front.
I wouldn't put the same tire size on the staggered set of 9s and 10s, the back ones will look stretched and funny... backwards even.

That's the only question really - do you care about being able to rotate your tires? If not, then staggered is the way to go.
What wheels are you getting? Offset is the most important factor when selecting wheels, not just size.

Pros: Looks cool.
Cons: Less tire life because can't rotate front to back, only left-right. And depending on the tire, you may also wind up having to dismount the tire to do the left-right because it's directional. General G-Max is one I have personal experience with, had to pay for one of the rotations on my car. It is also possible to pick a corner specific tire, in which case there will be *no* rotation, but that's also gonna be a pretty pricey tire.
Aka, you'll pay more for the privilege for having the staggered in some way, so be prepared for it.
The staggered may or may not be better handling for turns because of the smaller tires. Think GT500 setup, there's a reason they did 255s in front and 285s in back, and they said it was the handling was better.
It may also have a *slight* advantage in gas mileage on highway because the smaller width tire doesn't have as much contact patch, therefore friction, as well as air resistance overall. But this is a seriously minor consideration in the overall picture, I'd say. Still, it's a thing.
Pretty much it.
