Koni STR't Shock Failure

I've had a squeak in the right rear and finally found the culprit. The shock is blown internally and was bent at an angle when mounted on the car, causing the plastic sleeve to remove the paint on the shock. I got the new shock installed today and it is peacefully quiet again.

The cover took the paint off of mine on my 2010, not so much the shock just the cover not fitting the shaft so good.

The shaft rotated freely, and wiggled internally and I could compress and extend it by hand easily. I had to cut the plastic cover off to anchor the shaft with vice grips to remove the upper nut. The shock was blown in less than a year of use with less than 10k miles.

Was the shock covered under Koni's lifetime warranty ? This was my main reason for purchasing the Koni sport yellows, other than for their quality..

I was wondering the same thing since the Koni sports are in the garage right now.

My Koni front struts are leaking. Save your receipt.

I had the orange on our 2012 V6 Auto and one of the struts blew in less than 4 months of ownership. Had to send it back to Koni and they replaced it, no questions asked.

Only thing that sucked was having to do the job three times... The initial install when new, removal / reinstall of both the OEM struts, and then put the Koni's back in when we received the replacement.

Koni moved the production of the STR't from Holland to Mexico a couple of years ago and have been having quality issues since. If I had known, I would have chosen differently. Save your receipt if you want the warranty!

It's no wonder about the quality control issues.. This was also a factor for selecting the Koni sport yellows over the STR'Ts.. As the yellows are still made in Holland and not friggin Mexico.. Hopefully if enough people complain about this, Koni will take the hint and move production for the STR'Ts back to Holland where it belongs..
