Are Brembos from the junk yard worth $1600?
I am a new member, and I wanted to ask all you Mustang owners questions. This is my first one.
I drive a stock 2010 GT coupe in stop-and-go traffic every day. I looked up the window sticker (on another computer so I don't have the specs in front of me now), and I don't think I have a track Pack, but I do have 19" wheels and sync, lots of interior lights, etc.
I don't feel like the brakes will throw me through the wind shield, and before I did the rear brakes, the pedal was getting too much travel, in my opinion.
The CFO would have a coronary, and probably grab a knife if I were to try to buy a set of Brembos new, so I am thinking I could find used Track Pack Brembos and add in steel front brake lines, to get the best brake for the buck. Is this worth doing? Should I do just the front axle or all four?

I believe brand new they are either 500 per or as a set, not sure. Talk to Steve at Tasca and see what he quotes you, if they are worth 1000 brand new then I am sure you could get used for about 600-800.

To avoid having to get a new set of wheels, you can get the upsized rotors of the 2011+ GT, along with the caliper bracket that goes with it, change the pads to ones with more "bite", change the front brake lines to stainless steel, and likely have a solution that would give you what you want for street driving.

Stoptech are about 3mm smaller than brembos as far as calipers sticking out. We could get you stoptechs with slotted rotors, stainless lines and pads for 300 less than what a junk yard is trying to charge you.

Why? Why must you always add stuff to my build list? Geeez lol

Get a set of auto-x capable pads and you'll be set. Brembos are not necessary for street driving. I was unhappy with the stock brembo pads even - swapped them out for a better, more aggressive pad and that fixed everything. Something like hawk hp or hp-plus will greatly increase initial bite of the brakes and probably get you the feel you want for much less money

The initial bite is great - haven't necessarily saved me from accidents, but they will grab quickly and very hard and increase braking feel/confidence and probably shorten stopping distance in general.

1600 is bananas for a yard pull, I'll sell you my brembos w/ only 9k miles for 1k although in your situation I'd go with Jay's suggestion for sure. However if your hooked on getting the brembos I'll sell you mine!
