Brakes squeaking - Carbotech street pads

I'm having a persistent problem with my brakes squealing. I can hear it faintly without the brakes pressed at all, and it sounds worse at low speeds with the brakes lightly pressed. Hard press will eliminate the sound entirely. At low speeds I can hear that they only squeak at a certain spot on the rotor as the sound pulses.

Stop-tech slotted (not drilled) rotors, carbotech street pads. Stock GT brakes. I've narrowed it down to the fronts, but I can't tell which side (might be both). It seems significantly more prevalent during warmer weather.

So far I've greased just about EVERYTHING on the brakes save for the rotors and the pad faces. Pad clips thoroughly greased, slide pins OK and well greased, backs of rotors well greased...just can't figure this out.

Any thoughts? Just the cost of doing business with these pads? I figured the street compound would be quiet. If that's the case, how much noise to their autocross pads make? Might as well get more aggressive if the noise is there either way.

Did you bed the pads and see if that stops the noise? Is wear even?

Yes they have been bedded a few times, and it usually helps but is short lived.

Also wear looks to be even.

Interesting. Are you sure they are street pads? What you're describing is exactly how my track pads behave

That's what the box says. Red mounting plates. Not sure how else to tell.

I'll try and get some pics next time the wheels are off.

I have a hard time believing these are anything but street compound, though.

Doing a few hard stops might help. I did this method to eliminate the squeaking on my new pads.

That only ends up a very short term solution. Squeal is back within minutes usually.

I was thinking of these pads. For the expense they should be top notch. My stock Brembo pads will squeal if I brake lightly sometimes. Braking lightly and not firmly can cause harmonics thus noise.

They were not the last few times I've taken them off. Looked like typical metallic pad material.

Not sure who you bought them from as they have many vendors but if you call carboteh they should be able to help you they might have you send them back so they can
regrind them.

I use XP8s on the rear and I keep them there both on track and for DD duty. They squeak a little, but nothing overly annoying. Most of the noise is in light braking when pulling up to the stop light. This is a track pad though, so I can't complain. Does the squeaking go away if you brake later and harder?

Yes, hard braking eliminates the noise. But city driving is rough, and it still squeaks without the brake pressed at low speeds. It's downright awful in the summer, not too bad when it's cold.

1521 is the only compound CT recommends for the street. I'm starting to think your pads came with the wrong compund... I'd reach out to CT and see what they say.

Maybe... I hope not as they're not THAT much better than OEM... Certainly better but they will fade pretty quick still at high speeds. I'll see what they have to say.

Update: replaced the pad clips and it completely solved it.... For about 50 miles. Squeak is back now, although now ONLY when braking. No more when just driving at low speeds.

Could it be that I painted the calipers brackets including where the pad clips rest? Maybe bring that back down to bare metal?
