14 GT with a little bit of tire rubbing

My GT has Eibach pro kit springs which according to specs, lowered my car 1 inch in the front and 1.5 inch in the rear. I also have 20x10.5 HRE wheels with MT 305/35/20 tires in the back. I am having a little bit of rubbing in the back passenger side when hitting road bumps at fairly high speed, crossing over overpasses and bridges. I have an adjustable panhard bar and some adjustments in there might take care of this rubbing. I also have Koni orange that will be installed on 9/1. I am just reading about the Ford racing P springs, and according to specs, it will lower the car an even 1 inch front and back. Has anybody have experience with these P springs? How about the Steeda sport springs that will lower the car 1 inch front and 1.25 inch in the back? Between these 2 springs, I am leaning towards the P springs just because of that extra .25 inch clearance it will give me in the back.

Right now, I have a 2 finger gap in the front and a 1 finger gap in the rear.

I am running the Steeda sports with Koni oranges on my car. I like the ride and handling, but I am running a smaller tire so I cannot speak to the clearance issue.

Are you still on the stock factory struts and shocks? If so, the Koni orange struts should be stiffer, minimizing the rub.

I just read from AM that the P springs will need the GT 500 strut mount since I have a 14 GT. That also means that I can not use the Konis that I have that are for the 14 GT. If I get the P springs, can I just use the rear springs?

BackroadGT...yes, I am still on my OEM struts and shocks.

Yes, you can try rear springs only and see if it helps. I don't know how that will feel though. I would just try the koni's first, if it were me. Ultimately you would probably be better off with koni yellow adjustables.

I'm running 305/30s on my 20x10.5s (+40 offset) and H&R Supersport springs, and I get rubbing on both sides. PHB is centered. If you dropped down to a 305/30 you might solve it, as the Pro-kit is not as low as mine. My springs are the H&R equivalent to the Sportlines from Eibach.

Make sure your PHB has the axle centered before changing anything else. If you must change springs though, I'd go Steeda or Roush.

Well, I hope the combination of a stiffer shock and taller Roush springs will do the trick. If not, I might have to get another set of tires.

I'm on Koni Yellows. Actually when I stiffened up the rear a LOT, thinking it would help with the rubbing, it made it worse. Rubbed on every little bump.

Then I went down to a quarter turn from a the way soft, just to try it, and it got rid of 90% of the rubbing! The softer valving allowed for the natural side to side compliance to let some one tire tuck up on the bumps. It also rides a lot better that way.

I will be installing Koni orange next week together with Roush springs which are advertised to drop the car 1 inch front and rear.

Please measure before and after, then let us know how much they drop. Thanks

Yes, this is true, but I guess what I'm asking for is a final end result measurement. I may want some 20" wheels in the future, so I'm just curious how it comes out. Thanks again.

So the Koni orange and Roush springs got installed yesterday. The Roush springs and my former Eibach pro actually lowered the car about the same. The Konis though made a lot of difference. If I am still getting rubbing on this setup, I may have to get some new tires next year with a slightly skinnier rear tires from my 305/35/20 now.

Forgot about this thread. Mine still rubs bad too. My wife DID get me the Airlift kit for my birthday though. Keep her right? . I'm still going to order some 18s for daily use though. My 20s are way too heavy for daily use. I will throw them in for shows.

I actually did some measurements before I had the Roush springs installed. My garage floor is not fully level.

Before, with the Eibach pro springs:
front driver side is 27.75
front passenger side is 28
rear driver side is 28
rear passenger side is 28.25.

After the Roush springs are installed:
front driver side is 27.75
front passenger side is 28
rear driver side is 29.25
rear passenger side is 29

I think with this modest increase in height in the rear, plus the addition of the Koni orange shocks and struts, my rubbing will be very much minimized. I haven't had any rubbing in the 100 miles or so I have driven the car since Sunday when I got the springs and Konis installed.

Thanks for the measurements. Sounds like you've found the "sweet spot" for your wheel gap. The car looks great! ( I saw it on another thread )
