Need some help please.

Yesterday I wan getting my Track Key set and while the car was in the parking lot at the dealers waiting for me, someone reversed into the bumper. There are now 2 or 3, 4 inch scratches on the bumper.

To my horror it appears that even Ford don't have a part number for the paint as it's a new School Bus Yellow that was specially made for the Boss 302.

Well at least that's what a Ford dealer told me. Does anyone know if that is really true? I can't seem to even find a replacement rear bumper for a 2013.

I am going to get a paint stick (very similar color) and just touch it up for now.

Anyone found a good source for replacement body parts, paint etc.....

I just feel sick at the moment.....

Phil.

Phil, a good custom paint shop should be able to match just about any color. Does the bumper need replacing or is it just scratched?

Its scratched rather than dented. The scratches go through the paint to the fiberglass. I don't think I need a new bumper. I will go an take a pic on a while and post it so you can see.

Unfortunately no note... but as the bumper does not seem to be dented then perhaps they didn't notice, I am not sure.

The 2012 bumper I saw was about $400. I have no idea what it would cost to fix something like, I have never had to take a car to a paint shop in 35 years. I have had all sorts of cars but this one is the best I have every had, I have only had it a week. So I just feel crushed.

The color is not listed in the Parts catalog. That does not mean there is not a part number. All the Dealer has to do is send an inquiry to Ford Parts Assistance. It's not a big deal. If you want send me an Email with your Vin and I will get you a FORD PART NUMBER.

As per FORD no touch up paint released for B1 at this time. I would hope they will get around to this at some point. I have never ran into not being able to get FORD touch up paint for a current Vehicle fairly quickly after the Vehicle was manufactured.

Ouch! Lucky that it didn't cause more damage. Shame that people aren't more aware of what is around them. Reminds me of one day I was walking out to my car about a week after I got it, and saw a young girl getting out of her car. The wind caught her door and it hit my car door. She looked around and then shut her door like nothing happened, so I walked up and asked if it hit the car. She said NO. I told her I saw the whole thing, and she apologized over and over again. No damage to my car other than a little should grease needed to get a scuff out, but still moral of the story, be aware of what's around you.
Sorry again for your misfortune.

That should be just a comp claim from your insurance. Unfortunetly a good body shop can take car of that for under most peoples deductable. For this reason I always set my deductable to $250.00 not $500.00. If anything would ever happen to my vehicles I can cover the deductable quick. Good luck and sorry to see and hear.

Thanks all. I am reluctant to use the insurance only because the premium would probably go up if I got a mark against my insurance. If it's $500 approx to fix in a paint shop then that's fine, but I have no idea yet. I just hope that they don't say that Boss 302's need a special process to spray that's costs 3 times more than normal or something like that, wouldn't that be just my luck...lol..

Thanks Kevin for reacting so quickly and offering your assistance. I do appreciate it.

I had someone open their door into the door of my Altima last year, I contacted my insurance agent (State Farm) and was told that it would not affect my insurance. Total damages was 1500 because they dinged real hard into the door down to the metal. Call your agent and ask them, but get a quote from a paint shop and check your deductible. Chances are that this will be an easy fix for a good shop.

I really hate seeing these posts, I've had my 13 for 2 weeks and the worst thing to happen so far is bird **** on the windshield....

Comp does not usually raise your insurance with most Insurance companies, I had my BMW get keyed and no increase, I had some road debris hit the front bumper of my mustang and also no increase in the premium be cause both were not my fault.

1st off, it would be a collision claim, not comprehensive.

2nd - a bodyshop is going to want to remove and disassemble the bumper for paint, plus they'll charge actual repair time on the damage, then of course shoot the color and clear, then reassemble.

3rd - you'll want to find out if SBY is a 2 or 3 stage paint. If it's 3 stage, it's going to cost a little more in the paint shop.

Sorry about your luck, but hope it gets better and good luck w/ the repairs.

Consider yourself lucky that it wasn't a tri-coat paint color.... that is a bear to match.

Good luck with the repair

Thanks all for the advice and comments, I checked the insurance, its Progressive. I have apparently small accident forgiveness already and next year get large accident forgiveness. So it seems I may be able to get this covered and not get penalized if its way over my $500 deductible, quite honestly that's fine to get my car looking like it was.

I had Snapshot on my car to get a good rate and I certainly don't want to loose that.

So thanks once again for the advice. I am feeling better about the whole thing, I can't describe how fed up I was last night.

I will share what the paint shop says and how much when I get down there.

Phil..

Ok just sharing, went to a Mustang Specialist today. Looks like it would cost $500 to take off the bumper and fix and spay. The big problem is if they can get the decal on the bumpers on their own. The other option is to work just on the area involved. They can mask and spray, they said it would be less expensive but there would be a slight overlay in clear coat that would not be seen but it could be felt if you ran your fingers over the old and new clear coat. Sooo I am thinking I don't let people run their fingers over my bumper, so I should go that way for now. If I get a ding in the future from someone bumping me then I can get the thing taken off and sprayed another time.

What I was surprised at was the cost of the window louvers. To get them flush they cost nearly $1000. That's about $500 for the louvers painted and $500 for the work because he said that getting the glass out is labor intensive to get it out properly and not just broken. That's just a lot of money for louvers.... So will probably leave well alone for now.

He said they had a new fix for the gear stick play. Its a bracket that fits under the stick mechanism and makes it much more stable and clean, one owner said it was night and day after putting the bracket on. That only cost $100 and another $100 for labor, but if you can get under the car is easy to do your self. I was really impressed with the sales guy, he was extremely helpful and and knowledgeable about the Boss......

The one thing he sold me on was getting my wheels dipped in carbon fiber. They look really cool on the demo sets they have. $200 dollars per wheel.....+ I can get the wing mirror covers to match. In case anyone is interested the company is http://www.mrt-direct.com/shop-online.html (can I put the link here? well done now)... They are very local for me so that's cool.

So when my car goes in I will get the paint fixed first and wheels done and the door mirrors done, then a new air filter and a new axle back 3 inch and new **** bracket. The louvers will have to wait.

My touch up paint and clear coat turned up today. $27 for the two. It says PEN-BC 2013 SBY and PEN-CC High gloss clearcoat, so I will see when I get it on. Came from Automotivetouchup

Good to hear Phil, but that's a crazy install cost for louvers. I assume you're talking about the SHR flush louvers... they're $350 from SHR and come already painted (DEFINITELY go w/ pre-painted... long story, if you want to hear it, then ask). Install isn't that difficult, and I'd check w/ a couple of (automotive) glass shops in your area and see if you can find one to do it. I can't imagine it costing much more than $150. Most body shops sublet out their glass work to glass shops anyways. So you really should be able to get those painted and installed for around $500 total, not twice that.

Edit: and while I don't have any experience with it - he's probably talking about the Barton shifter bracket. There's 2 different ones. I'd call Barton direct and find out what the advantages of the different ones are. http://www.bartonindustries.com/2011-MUSTANG.html Good luck.
