To X Pipe or Not to X Pipe? That Is The Question.
To X Pipe or Not to X Pipe? UPDATE: X installed
I need some advice.
Planning on installing a Griggs Torque Arm Kit. My installer and I both forgot that the Kit will not work with the OEM H Pipe and side exhausts.
So, I can leave the setup the way it is and not install the Torque Arm or do away with the side exhausts (which I really like. And I know it's aesthetics).
So, X Pipe users help?
I'm running Roush A/B with Jegs Performance SS Cat Deletes now.
FRPP X pipe is installed.
One of the issues that I had after original post was after the AED Tunes and Cat Deletes, I would get serious backfires. It was definitely too much. So with potential suspension upgrades and the need for better performance , I went for the X pipes.
1. Idle: It's definitely a lower tone (I thought it would be higher pitched than the H) and the AED Lopey is very nice with the X
2. WOT: higher pitched there for sure; but I like the sound.
3. Quieter in the cabin of course with no sides
4. Still getting backfires; but about 60% in volume and sound level
5. Performance: "seat of the pants Dyno" says definite improvement. I'll be able to tell better Friday night at TMS drags

X pipes supposedly are slightly better flowing and thus better performance. They also change the exhaust note to a higher pitch compared to the H pipe.(not as much baritone rumble) Also, by ditching the stock H pipe and side exhaust your car will be approx. 50lbs lighter.
ConeBoss: thanks for info. We have a slight change of plans. There is a new product coming out in a few weeks, which may allow me to keep the stock side pipes. I had just decided to go with the X pipe, but will now wait for this new piece for a few reasons.

IMO if your getting suspension work done then you should care more about the handling performance aspect of the car instead of the silly side exhaust. Get a good sounding cat back and be done with it.
I picked up the Boss tonight. Jack Rails installed and the rear torque arm will be a couple more weeks.
Now to the exhaust: I have the AED custom tunes and the side exhausts are pretty much "over the top" on decel, especially with the Lopey tune. So, I'm thinking the X pipes are a must.

Sounds like you want performance so ditch the 50lbs and tractor sounds for the x pipe! BTW I was speaking with one of the engineers on the Boss project 2 years ago and he stated "the very best mod for a track Boss would be to install an offroad x pipe and tune" I did that and picked up over 33 HP and 30 lbft... at the rear wheels on a Mustang load dyno...

X Pipe worked great. I could sense an increase in power. No timers, etc at the Friday Night Drags at TMS.
Lost the final race to a 2014 Modded 5.0. Beat him last week and outlaunched him; but suffered a 2nd gear lockout!!! CHE K Brace w/ Engine Torque Limiters coming next.

Yep. Long tubes (which deletes the cats) are where the power is at in the exhaust. X or H is preference for sound on this car. Power difference is nil.
People seem to be confused when someone mentions an off-road x or h-pipe on the new 5.0L's. The stock h-pipe is separated from the cats, so there is no such thing as "off road" h or x anymore. Applies to 4.6L 3V cars and earlier, though, since cats and h were on one assembly.
