Worth buying a 2012-2013 Boss 302?
What's your plan once you acquire one? Drive it? Keep it stored away?
It's kind of important. Lemme tell you the tale of my once acquired dream car, the Mustang SVO.
The Mustang SVO is a similar idea to the Boss 302: A niche version of the Mustang. It wasn't actually meant to be that, Ford had Plans(tm), but nobody wanted a 4 cylinder turbo hot rod when they could have the lesser HP, but better torque and also cheaper V8 powered GT. Also the SVO only came in manual, so that didn't help much. So it didn't sell all that well.
I still had to have one. I got one. I paid a bit more than I probably should. But the SVO was the best dang car ever! All the suspensions, all the looks, all the tech! That double wing! I was so happy!
And then I found out: Bad idea for a daily. Way bad.
Parts were harder to find. And seriously expensive. Simple things too. The A/C compressor alone was 3-4 times the cost of the GT's on the SVO. The tires were stupid expensive comparatively as well. And good luck finding interior or body parts, they're one offs in effect.
And then it broke in a most spectacular fashion. And pretty much junked the car for usefulness. It blew the head gasket between 1 and 2, and warped both the iron block and the iron head a full, kid you not, 1/8" total. Nobody could believe it when we tore it down. Shaved the head and block, and the car was never the same. Probably should have CC'd the heads, but nobody knew what to do with the **** thing really, it was EEC-IV and just wasn't ever happy afterwards. Sold it, and good riddance.
I learned this 'special car' crap one more time with a Mark VIII. It was worse. I was never so happy to have had a car stolen at knife point by two people. I was kinda irritated at the stuff *in* the car being taken, but the car? Oh thank goodness, it's over.
And my ol' 66 Tbird. Nosir, parts were just stupid on that too.
And the point of my diatribe is this: If you have *bank*, and another car to drive, get the Boss. If you don't, maybe you temper your need. Remember the adage of 'Never meet your heroes'. Such is the case for special cars.
And if you still want it after readin', fantastic. Get it. Price be hanged, you want what you want, YOLO and all that, yeet that money right outta your wallet and into that depreciating car!
