Weights on rear axle tubes....

What are they for? Vibration? Are the necessary? Any problems ditching them?

I ditched them on my 07 GT and didnt notice a thing. I say take them off!

You can remove them, but you might pick up a little extra NVH.

Took mine off a few weeks ago.I've been to Pocono and been up to 155 a bunch and driven about 1000mi since then.No noticeable difference to me.
