Thinking about removing the hood decal on a KB
Thinking about removing the hood decal on a KB
I'm wondering if there's a downside, like glue that won't come off or paint that won't buff to a gloss.
I liked the way Scott's YB looked when he temporarily removed his hood decal before he added the flat black.
I'm told it can be done rather easily with a hair dryer.

For some reason my hood decal was a SOB to remove. The factory hood decal is made of high quality vinyl. the decal is made of one peice vinyl including the pin stripe. I'm told that it's starts out as a clear sheet of vinyl and the pattern is painted on then glue is applied over that. If you do remove the decal, make sure you heat the hood up. If you have access to heat lamps, put the hood under them untill it get hot. If you use a heat gun be carefull not to blister the paint or buckel the metal. Yes the hood will expand if you hold heat to long in one place. slowly start to remove the decal. If glue is present after the decal is removed you can use anything from goof off down to laquer thinner. laquer thinner will not harm the paint. ford uses a baked on enamel paint and it will not hurt the paint or finish. This I know for sure. I use it with no problems. Just remember to use heat and take your time. I have changed my hood decal about 3 different times and now i'm looking at a new hood and paint.

John I've been thinking of removing mine too but you go first.
I really like the KB color and I'd like to see more of it. Plus the hood decal exaggerates the orange peel in the paint. The LS cars look fine without the hood decal. Of course if you remove the hood decal the next step is painting the roof KB. If you go to MRT's website you'll see photos of a black LS with the red removed from the grill, mirrors, spoiler, and roof and I like it's clean look. That car retains the side C stripes and red wheels. Here it is.

Yes looking for a new hood. as for Style I'm still undecided. I'm into looks and making the car my own taste. Not worrying about the tracking end of it for now. I like to keep the look close to factory but add the (what if) Ford would have done it. I'm still going to keep the graphics that are on the hood at present only change to paint. I stole them off of the C-stripes and moved it up to the hood to maintain the factory look. I just added a GT500 rear wing in Black because the factory wing was black (trackey money) and now My gauge pod and Ford Racing gauges just came in (OT money). I see this as a life long project. I belive the New cars are to be made into your dream and historic cars should be put back to factory specs.

I'm with you. That looks much sleeker and cleaner - less busy and/or "batmobile."
Given what I'm reading here, I'm nearly sure I'll be taking the hood decal off after I pick it up next Saturday. If I somehow do screw it up, oh well, then I'll have to spring for the Tiger hood.
I'm wondering how much a paint job on the roof will cost.
I also saw some silver BOSS C-stripes at American Muscle that gave me pause. I wouldn't mind seeing how those look with KB.
The stripes came off real easy for me. I heated up a corner of the hood stripe and then it pealed off so easy I did not heat it more. The side stripes I did not use any heat. Just pull it back at a sharp angle, don't pull it straight out at a 90 degrees angle.
JMO, but I don't like the YB look without it. I think the KB would look better naked then the YB or CO but then again I would love to see someone do a KB in black stripes.

Looking at Scott's photo with no hood decal makes me want to go out in my garage and pull mine off right now...but I won't. I'm pretty sure mine is coming off but I'll wait until a 70+ degree day to do so and that means 2-3 months from now.
Got any photos without the paper hat?

Got any photos without the paper hat?I thought you were going to do a black package??? All talk and no action

Shortly before my Boss arrived I met another TMS member who has a KB GT with black stripes. While it looks nice the black didn't stand out enough for me and that idea died quickly. I did swap out my wheels within the first 24 hours I owned the car and the rear spoiler within two weeks...

Call me crazy but without the painted roof it looks like a GT with a Boss stripe.
