Dealer sent me notice today that a stop ship exists for all Boss's for deliveries starting May 16.
I'm bummed. Reason for delay unknown.

Maybe fixing a potential quality issue that was uncovered.
Best place to look up stuff like this before posting is Blue Oval Forum, I have not checked for this issue over there.

Is this trans issue really an issue? Or is it limited to a few cars with boisterous owners? I'm not trying to be contentious, but sometimes I wonder with performance cars if people just have an unrealistic expectation of what the clutch and trans should feel like. I have 2,000 miles on mine (400 of them b###s out on the track) and my transmission and clutch work great. In fact, I can't believe how smooth the clutch is compared to the GT500. Of course the GT500 clutch friction material is uber aggressive to handle all the torque.

Gary, I think it is a problem, a very small problem that can be overcome and has been blown out of proportion but still a problem. It is something I am use to now but if a fix came out and called for replacing the shifter or something like that I would do it but I am not going to change the fluid from the TSB. For one I hear complains about noise even if people say it does shift smoother and I do not know if the clutch fluid has long term protection against wear and tear like the original fluid. It has nothing to do with the clutch, at least for me anyway.
I guess I'd be curious to drive a car with the issue for comparison. A friend of mine just bought a 5.0 and is complaining about how notchy the trans if compared to his 03 Mach 1. I haven't driven his so I can't say whether it's any different than my Boss or not. What exactly is the issue? I read in the 5.0 thread about some cars not going into gear. Now that would be a serious issue. However, many of the complaints seemed to be difficulty (read slightly more effort) shifting 1-2 and 2-3 when cold, which is how most manual trans react when cold.
To be honest I have no idea what the hell notchy is/means? To me the problem is it does not flow easy in and out of the lower gears, I saw it mostly going up into third and downshifting. Best way I can explain it was it would have a slight bind or feels like it sticks a bit about halfway into and out of the gears. Don't know if that makes sense.
It seemed to get better as the shifter was getting worn in but still there. I have few miles on the car so I do not know what the future will hold. To me it is not a big problem and I am somewhat use to it, I feel it could be smoother but nothing I am going to lose sleep over.
My bigger issue is how it shifts into third, it binds up if you try to shift it rather then let it flow in with a light touch. that seems more of a design issue then any kind of problem. I am use to older 60's cars and manual trucks so this short throw is somewhat new to me.. This is my first newer manual performance car I have owned since I had an 87 (if you consider 87 newer) T-Bird - and man that car shifted nice.
I think any new manual trans is going to be notchy to a degree. I just recently put a NEW not rebuilt ZF6 in my CrewCab 4x4. At first "notchy" would be a gross understatement. It took me a half hour to get it into a gear that would let me move the truck down the driveway. At that point I could not get it into reverse to go back up the driveway so we towed it. It took about 45 more mins to get it back into a forward gear to go back down the driveway! Then about 15 more mins to get it into reverse. Now this transmission was bone dry and had only assy lube in it.
Fast forward 3,000 miles or so and the thing is shifting much, much better. Still have some notchiness when cold but when it warms up it's smooth as butter. In many ways it's now like the truck was when new- nearly 300,000 miles ago. That old transmission shifted great in and out of gears at that point. I replaced it because it was popping out of gear. It turned out that the pilot bushing was about .100" oversized from input shaft wear on it. It was kevlar.
My unsolicited advice: Avoid making it grind at all cost because that can do damage to the synchro's. The more you can drive it and shift it without grinding or anything like that then the more it's being broken in and will avoid those problems in the future.
Here's the 230 lb beast. You can see the PTO cover I made on the Bridgeport mill that allows a temp sending unit. This trans it pretty big and has a pump for an external cooler. That's why I have a filter mounted to the side. Does a Boss have an external cooler or is it all airflow?
