Special instructions for pick up

I wanted to give my dealrship a set of instructions for when I pick up the car I.E. Do not remove any plastic, Do not throw away any paper work, if possible let me ride along when testing the car and if not I will follow in another vehical. Do not go over 3500 rpm. Do not go over 55 MPH.
This dealership is very small and I think they will be good with the above don't do's.

Anyone else have sugestions?

Really man? I can see maybe plastic and papers but not over 3500 and 55. When you drive it home and a wheel falls off or it throws a rod at 70, don't get mad that they didn't catch that at the dealer. Lighten up a bit.

There is no reason for them to test drive it off the lot, plain and simple. If you have any trust in the dealer/salesman tell them not to touch it until you arrive. Then they can do PDI and if you want it washed or whatever have it done at that point.

tell them not to wash it, no detail is better than what some dealerships will do to it. Do not mount the front plate.... that is unless you want it mounted.

You guys don't get it. The most important part of the PDI is the test drive. The technician signs his name on that piece of paper verifying that it is safe for delivery. I worked at dealerships for 12 years and I would have never signed off on that paper unless it was test driven. All other issues can be overlooked but not a test drive. Like I said before, if a wheel falls off on your way home, you're gonna want to sue somebody. You are asking for trouble and I wouldn't deliver it that way unless you signed a waiver.

The guy who loaded it onto the car carrier most likely revved over 3500rpm.

OP's luck it'll be one that gets selected for a QA drive.

Honestly, leaving all plastic on, no wash, and just completing the PDI is a good start. Mine had 7 miles on it from the dealer and was fully wrapped when it came off the truck. I went to the dealer to get a look at it and pulled the plastic myself, then the PDI was done.

Yep. And I'm pretty sure Ferrari put their cars on a test track after they are built. And it doesn't bother the Ferrari buyers.

Had one, they are typically delivered with 30-50 miles on the clock.

I'm willing to bet that the ford GT's even get test driven. I've never seen people this uptight over a car under $50k.

Well you sound like the overall expert around here on this and how we should feel about our cars even if they are only pocket change of 50 Grand. You must have worked at better dealer then me. Maybe that rule does not apply to NJ or FL since they did not drive mine here in FL.

Again not being much of an expert like you but I think I would find a new dealer for service if the PDI mechanic can not see a broken LCA or loose lug nuts without having the wheel fall off himself on the road, I am kind of picky like that.

For the OP, there is nothing that says they need to drive it off the lot. In fact many dealers do not even want to take a chance on public roads with customer's cars.

Oh - and mine was test driven at the factory, I was happy about that

You still don't understand the legality of the whole thing. Its not like it's a woman. Never driven by any other guy. But I guess you Boss guys all married virgins too.

Drive it off the lot and something goes wrong with it because it wasn't Test driven or some problem was hiding under the plastic that you wouldn't let them remove. It's at the dealer and the techs decision I guess. But I'm sure you will sue them.

I work at a dealer right now. And our pdi guy don't care about what the customer "wants". He is there to do his job. He has steps to follow that Ford gives him. If the customer is that **** about the car he will tell them to go buy somewhere else because he has to do his job. It's not like one trip around the block is going to hurt you car.

I thought they were all driven at or at least out of the factory. I haven't seen a new car with less than 3 miles on it.

They are a little but when the tech has to sign his name stating that the vehicle is safe for travel he want to see the vehicle and drive it to make sure it is. He doesn't want the customer coming back blaming him for signing if the vehicle turns out unsafe.

Well they took my off the lot....they gave me a full tank of gas.

Everyone has their own quirks, I didn't care about leaving plastic on, etc.
The SVT mechanic saved all the plastic wrap, stickers, etc. for me.
