Must be a live axle thing.
Too much lowering CAN negatively affect the suspension's functionality, but the tire OD on the 302R is smaller than the street car.
285/35/19 vs. 275/35/18. So it's at least an inch shorter overall (1/2" shorter radius in the wheelwell)

This is why I have a Watts Link in the garage already. Sounds like you're describing that little shimmy the rear end takes before it sets with a panhard bar. Can't wait to get mine here so I can feel it for myself.
