Size of Fuel Reserve
Size of Fuel Reserve
In addition to all the other info we still have the Low Fuel/ On Reserve warning light which is in the left instrument cluster.
Anyone know how much is in the tank (approx) when the light illuminates. I just finished my first tank, and the reserve light was on and supposedly I had about thirty five (35) miles to empty (comes on a 50 miles to go).
When I filled up the car it took 12.782 gals, leaving approximately three (3) gallons in the tank. Since I averaged about 16.5 mi/gal, I should have been able to go to "empty" ( 16.2 x 2 = 32.4 miles) on the miles to go warning, leaving about one gallon in reserve. I've read on here that when "0" miles to go appears one has about one-half gallon to go in reserve.
The problem in distilling the data is the poster often omits the type of mustang and the MY. I understand that fuel gauges are all a bit different for each individual vehicle.
Any input appreciated.

Next time your 50 mile warning comes on, watch how many miles you go compared to the change in miles to empty.
I've only done it a couple of times when on long trips, and I think it just underestimates the remaining miles by about 1/3, based on your average consumption.

Unintentionally, I recently went down to "0 miles to empty", and filled 14.3 gallons. I had at least another 25+ miles left. In general, I'm getting 16-18 mpg in the city, and 25-27 mpg on the highway (3:15 gears will do that!), 80mph is only 2k rpms. And I do not get on it, 'cuz my red stands out and we have a ton of cops here. However, at the track (roadcourse, not drag strip), I get around 5-8 mpg! Have to fill up after three sessions, in order to run a fourth session and get home!
So, my two cents is "0 miles to empty" leaves about 25+ miles left to go.
NOTE TO FOMOCO - 18 gallon tank for 2015 model, minimum, please.
