Rear Wheel and Drag Radial Setup questions

Thoughts on a Drag Radial setup for the track and a little street driving for a Boss

15x10 Black Weld RTs with a 275 50 15 MT ET street radial (26" tall tire)
Pros = probably the most traction I am going to get out of a drag radial setup, Lightest option
Cons = Not going to match the fronts well. I am not going to buy the matching fronts as they are close to $500 a wheel. Will have to relocate the rear sway bar.

Reproduction 17 x 9 Black Bullitt Rims with the machined lip and a 275 40 17 MT ET street radial (26" tall tire)
Pros = About $275 cheaper and I am thinking they are going to be closest match to the stock front wheels.
Cons = Not as much traction as the 15's

Lets hear the thoughts on how much better the 15's would work or if there isn't that much traction to be gained over the 17's.
Any thoughts on a better setup?

I was thinking of 305/35-19 MT ET street drag radial on Saleen 19 x 10 wheels.
The MT's are 27.4 tall.

The tire alone is more expensive than a 17 inch Bullitt rim and a MT ET Street radial. I suspect the 17 might work a little better as well.

I'm running the 15/17 combo. If you go with the 15x8 there is no need to relocate, at least with the Racestar wheels. ( I'm running the 15x10 ) Look up the "Boss in drag" thread. I posted a few pics of my setup. They too are available in black powdercoat, just can't remember who sells them.

Brawlin'

Car looks good. What size tire is that on the back and what RPM are you going through the traps at?

The rear wheel is a 15x10 and the tire is a 28x12.50. I had to install a rear sway bar relocation kit to fit the 10 in wheel. An 8 inch wheel will clear without modifications. I really can't remember what I am crossing at, but I want to say it was around 7200. Thanks for the comment.

Well the tires pictured in his avatar and others that I have seen are definitely the ET Street bias ply.

For just the rears, I plan to go with M/T Street Radials, size P295/55R15 (part# 3755R) mounted on Weld RT-S 15x10" wheels with black centers (part# 71MB-510A75A). So far, just the new wheels have been ordered.
Ya, I seen that, I went to change my post and my battery died on my cell phone..

From what I gather a 28" tall tire is just to big for these cars. My buddy with no mods has been 11.8 at 117 bone stock with a 275 50 15 MT ET Street on Race Stars.

Brawlin is turning similar ET's at 115 mph with the better ET Drag, but it is 28" and he definitely has more HP with his mods plus the skinnies up front.

26" tire is all that is needed, the 28" is just going to slow you down.

My Boss has Trackey and I have no plans to go with an aftermarket tune anytime soon.

The 275 50 16 (26") tire doesn't hit the rev limiter either. The 28" tall tire is putting you even farther from the rev limiter, hence slowing you down unfortunately.

I hit rev limiter in mine with 26,
Though I agree I love the launch with the 26s I hit limiter and let off before finish line.

Brawlin Boss.....I tip my hat to you for running a chrome wheel and steping out of the box to speak. I guess I'm old school and still like the look of chrome. yes many Black wheels look good but I still like the chrome look. i just wish our Bosses had alittle more chrome touches.

Thank you very much for posting them pictures of the sway bar relocation, I installed my yesterday and I am not pleased with how close the sway bar is to the lower control arms.
Those are some nice wheels, are the holes uni fit or made especially for the Mustang?
