Toe in is what usually cause inside tire wear, not negative camer unless your running insane ammounts.

 

I know. I do alignments. Even with good toe Camber willeat at it. Not as fast of course.

 

OK, just back from the dealer. I have not modified the stock camber, I don't have an adjustable kit yet. This was the outside edge on the passenger side. Driver side is fine, looks only slightly worn. The mileage is only 1900+ miles, the other 2 tires are in great shape, and they are the ones spinning the most. They checked alignment, it was pretty close to perfect and tweaked it back to normal.
The local dealer sent pics and the alignment report to Ford engineering/warranty for an approval to replace the tire under warranty. They have never seen anything quite like it. I definitely heard the strip of tire break off and hit the wheelwell, but it was dark so I didn't see anything out back in the mirror. The highway I was on is a clear, well paved road (71 past 35 toward the airport for the locals).
I have never had a tire failure quite like this - I have worn through summer tires in 10,000 miles before, but never lost one this early. In fact, they were Pirelli Pzero Rossos a few years back on another car.
The manager felt that we would hear back with a yes to replace it. Once I wear these out, though, I am moving on to something else. I have had Bridgestone summer tires last me 2 years with "spirited driving".

 

Wow. Must have been just a bad tire make. Maybe the rubber didn't set right. I'm sure it will be covered.

 

Not on a 500 with the SVTPP.

those tires look really old man. i can see cracks in them, where did you buy the car? I'm sort of wondering if the dealer may have swapped tires with another car lot that were older. I have seeing dealers swap the entire wheels before if another customer wanted them.very strange failure

 

I thought they looked old, too, on the sidewalls. They are not a super common size, I was wondering if they were some leftovers pirelli have the ford factory.

 

i doubt that ford would have put old tires on the car. I bet you anything that the dealer swapped the tires. i have seen prestige do that before on cars if they had test driven it and burned a lot of rubber off and just throw something on it to sell. Is it the same tire the other boss 302's come with? lots of track miles? ive seen sidewalls get beat up before if the tire is under inflated and rolling over a lot on the track, but nothing like that. i pulled my factory rubber after almost 11k and there was no tread, but they looked better than those do with 1200 mile.

 

Pull the DOT off of you tire and post it here. I want to see how old they are.

 

They look a bit dry, hmm.

 

This isn't the first time I've seen problems with Pirelli's - I know of a Jag that has had problems as well.

Ford has an incredible ability to pick tire suppliers that seem to have problems on the regular

Gear find! I will take this with me if they try not to honor the warranty. I was thankfully not driving ay those speeds.

 

I'm not sure if it is related or not, but I am a HATER of these tires. My LS and two other LS's ALL had the tire start de-laminating in the middle after track use. The tire tread literally starts coming apart from the carcass. For all 3 of us, the tires performed VERY well the first track day. Started getting a little "greasy" at the end of a second track day.... and failed during a third track day. Never again on these tires.

 

I'm not going to panic with my 2012 Boss 302 tires, because there's a big, big difference between 'normal' road driving, and Tracking when it comes to tire stress.
But I'd like to hear from fellow Mustang owners reading this thread if they think I'm mistaken in my thinking,..... which in the past I've been known to be,... at least according to the real "boss"! :-

The only experience I have with these tires are daily driving and the only complaint I have for now is how noisy the tires have become. They do handle very well as a daily driver but do not plan to buy again.
