Oil change at 1k miles?

Oil change at 1k miles?
I got my first oil change today at 1100 miles. I have always heard about metal shavings getting into the oil and that you want to do the first change at about 1k miles. Any truth to this? I did it and feel good about it, kind of like breaking in the engine for the first 1k miles. It took 7 quarts, or was it 9 quarts of oil!

I did mine at 324 miles when i did suspension and will do it every spring when i take it out of storage - about 1500 miles.

I also had my first change done relatively early. It's probably not necessary. Some on these forums have posted that it can even be harmful, or at least keep the car from breaking in as quickly as it should.
No problems on mine as of yet.

I did my first in June at 2500 miles.
I'm now watching the oil monitoring system, which currently says 31% life.
The car is put away for the winter, so I'll probably do the next oil change in the spring, late April early May.

On the Boss, it's also a good idea to check the dipstick level frequently for the first couple thousand miles too. Even though its synthetic oil, the high performance engine will use some during break-in, and you'll probably have to top it up.
It's a personal preference, but before the first oil change I like to put a few drops of oil from the dipstick on my thumb and rub it with my index finger. You can feel the metal filings increase as the engine break-in takes place.

Thanks guys. I plan on keeping my Boss for a long time. I want to break it in properly, maybe going overboard a bit, but I would rather error on the side of caution. How many quarts of oil did your Boss take?

Did my first change around 1100, 2nd @ 5K. Will be changing every 5K, or around twice a year.

About to do my first. Hoping they don't have the same gorilla that works at dodge. Increadible how tight the torque the filters at the factory...

I know what you mean. I like to have never got the one off of my '08 SGT, luckily the one on my 500 came right off.

I was able to get the factory filter off with my hands. Did not crush it or mark it up at all.
Drained the oil out, cleaned it up, and for some weird reason put it away.

Btw back to chuckwalla tomorrow night on the track Friday. The suburban is my tow vehicle.

Okay that was like the Exxon Valdez. Between the angled oil filter dripping on the chassis and the oil pan draining into the transmission scoop there is a good clean up job after everything's done.
Filter came off easy with mild wrench pressure.

Have you never felt the oil dipstick of a car with the first 1000 - 1500 miles during break-in on it?
Squeez a bit and you CAN Feel the miro metal particles.
I'm not talking a sack of ground metal here! Sheesh!
