New owner 2012 rear end warbling whine

Hi

2012 Boss

took my first highway drive today

at 65-80+ the rear end progressively gets louder with a harmonic warbling whine. I didn’t notice it in the first hour, so maybe the rear end started to get hot. Over 85 it seemed to get a bit better. It does let up a tiny bit when I lift off the gas.

previous owner has lowered the rear with ford lowering springs and put in after market control arms and harder poly bushing as part of the install

the tires are 5 years old but only have 15000 miles

Suggestions on a list of issues to work through

Do I go back to soft rubber bushings to isolate the axle better. Do I try new tires?

thanks

mike

Not sure how much suspension work and lowering it has but pinion angle could possibly be an issue, when pinion angle is off it can get the drive shaft out of balance.

@mikeb

I Remembered This Vibration Topic and He Spoke of an App That Could Track Down the Issue Quick! The Link is to that Specific Post But Might Want to Gleen the Process He Went Through! Talk about Tires as Well! Perhaps He Could Find Out the Name of The App and You Can Find a Shop That Uses It! It Would Not Hurt to PM Him!

Could Actually Be a Driveshaft Issue!

Update I Paged Op in Final Post of Link!

I had the whining sound and mine was directly related to my Pirelli's being worn. I switched to Michelin's and all better. Now mine is also completely stock so take it for what it is.

Also check your rear sway bar end link bushings... If the poly bushings end up getting dried out? this can also lead to squeaking/vibrating noises... Therefore, make certain the poly bushings are fully greased...

The 3.73 rear gears tend to be noisy. If any of the stock rubber bushings I. The rear are replaced with plastic of solid pieces the noise goes up noticeably

yeah it could be the 3.73 gears, in combination with the Torsen differential and the hard bushings transmitting more noise ... I have this set-up in my car, and it does whine and the whine does vary with speed and loading conditions ... I already took the gears back to the installer and they said the set-up is as good as it can be (I don't always trust installers but these folks have a good reputation and seem like straight shooters)

if you still have the original two-piece driveshaft then the pinion angle probably isn't the issue, but it's worth checking
