My track day at BIR

Ok so I put the Hoosiers on this morning. For reference, my best lap time on the big track (3.1 miles) in the GT500 was 1:55.10. My best previous time in the Boss was 1:52.48. The Hoosiers are 265 front vs the 285 Nittos and the rears are 295 vs 305. My first session I cut a ..............drum roll.........1:50.3! This was with rolling chicanes for most of the session even running in the experienced group. Man I love this car. Not sure how long these tires will last though.

Great driving Gary!
Keep us updated on your times thru the weekend.
I'm sure we'll see some better numbers by tomorrow night.

I don't know Wayne. That's already well beyond what I thought was possible in this car. Highlight of the last session was getting the point by from a GT3RS.

Look at this awesome machine.

That's awesome! Can't wait to hit the track with this car.

Being and ex-Porsche guy I'm impressed.

So what lap times was the GT350 putting down?

Too high. Mid to upper 2:40s in the front straight

Hit 251 ECT 3 times at the top of 5th gear and had a temp light. No limp mode though.

I wonder if a billet bar grill will flow more or cleaner air to the radiator?

Excellent Gary, good to see is someone driving the Boss to it's potential

Had a great day at PBIR myself, first time out since instruction with Charlie at Miller. I was looking ahead - pointing the car at a spot and moving on to the next with my eyes and hands, finished braking before and not in the corners, exiting using the whole track and some better heal-toe. Man I learned a lot in a day

The day started out with a wet track while scrubbing in brand new tires. Even so I was still running at or better then my best time ever at this track. Switched back to my other tires but my GoPro vids for the third and forth sessions say corrupted, these two sessions I felt were the best. Second session I was just getting comfortable and ran on average 1:39 best 1:38. Before I had averaged about 1:45 and my best time was 1:41. Last session was cut short due to a big thunderstorm but I did get one 1:36 in there with some light rain. I am positive I had better times in the lost third and forth sessions.

I was first car on pit lane every session and I did not get passed once the entire day, not really a big deal in my class but it still felt nice.

So about the vids but had a fun day.

Yep it's going to take a mesh or bar grille unless it's low 80s or less. Otherwise going to have to run with no grille.

Now that said, I hit 251 max ECT got a temp light but no limp mode......so while troubling it didn't actually shut me down. For the most part with 5th gear at redline it held at 249F with an ambient of 88F.

What's really puzzling about this is the cars running in Grand AM and World Challenge (302R/S) don't seem to have cooling issues. They have the modified grills. Could it be the higher octane gas, different tune, lack of accessories or maybe when the cars rev to 8,100-8,300 rpm's they run cooler?

Maybe no A/C condenser?

Drew sorry no video you'll just have to use your imagination.

Quote of the weekend. My wife is watching from the tower when another guy starts chatting and says in a somewhat snarky way "he's from the Bay area". He asked who she was with and she says the Mustang. He says "well maybe he can move up some day" to which she replies well he just turned a 1:50. His responds flatly with his jaw somewhere near his toes "oh"

LOL I affectionately refer to them as waxers. It's a mix, but mostly track guys. It's just that you find quite a few more waxers among the Porsche and Corvette crowds. I had a lot of fun playing tag with a heavily modded 996 and a GT3RS.

There was a GT3 and a Cayman S (making 360 at the tire) that I ran with pretty competitively last time up here. This weekend with the Hoosiers on the Boss, they couldn't hang. They were running Hoosiers both last time and this weekend. I think my tire expense just went up

Hoosiers get chewed up too fast. I'm gonna flip my nt01s inside out and get some more use out of em. The inside shoulders are still very much intact
