I do not buy the garbage about learning to shift on this transmission. A car at the Boss price point and especially a performance car, should have a smooth shifting tranny. It took 5 minutes to get used to putting the car in reverse, which is acceptable. I have had many manual transmission cars, and have never had a tranny I could not put in gear at high rpms. It is a faulty, or less than ideal tranny for what the Boss is intended to do. I have second to third lock out on shifts at or above 5K rpm's. I have never missed a gear.
I have a lot of experience with stick cars and I have never had one act like this one does when you push it a little. At this point I would feel a lot better about a TOP LOADER. I quickly discovered that these six speeds are more difficult to work because of the tight pattern. I do have a MGW shifter on the car but all it has really done is stiffen and tighten the shifts. I can normally shift a stick as fast as it takes to push in the clutch and let it out. I have successfully gone through the gears on this car but for it to lock out more than once in a while is unexceptable. If I can't fix this problem I will have to take a closer look at the 13 gt 500. Better handling is only an advantage if the car can get to the next gear.

I recommend you bring your vehicles in to your Ford dealers and have them checked out. Then, PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can escalate this to the customer service manager for your area.

I am going to make an appointment for next weekend if I am off on Saturday. I do not like the thought of someone driving my Boss winding out second gear over and over again, but I will ask that a service manager is along for the ride, and I might be too.

I too had issues with 2-3 high rpm lockout. As an experiment, when getting locked out of the 2-3 shift I kept a light pressure on what I though should have been third gear. Once the rpms dropped enough the car went into gear, fifth gear that is. I didn't think that it was my shifting technique as I didn't have this problem in any other manual car I've driven. The 2-3 lockout was a very frequent occurrence, enough so that fifth gear started to grind and trans was rebuilt at 12k miles. After much thought and research I replaced the engine mounts when the transmission was fixed. So far so good, I have had no 2-3 lockouts anymore in the 6k miles since. This is with the stock shifter, stock clutch, and clutch helper spring removed.
I'm thinking that this fixed the issue because the stock engine mounts allowed the engine (and trans as well as the front part of the shifter) to move excessively to the left (rotationally) when releasing the throttle.

I finally got a return call from my local dealer and took the car in. They were very helpful and let me take there trans tech for a ride to demonstrate my problem, but guess what I couldn't replicate the problem it shifted just fine and I was hammering it. Go figure. They are going to check it out call Ford and at least get it documented. My pinion seal started leaking about a month ago so they are going to fix that.
I think this shifting problem is related to the torque applied when pushing the car.
