LS Splitter Struts Losing Color
LS Splitter Struts Losing Color
My LS splitter struts are changing color. They were black, but now the slotted piece is a shade of purple and the straight rod is losing the black completely to show the underlying silver color. Anybody else seeing this yet? I've had the splitter on for about 6 months or so now.
I'm considering trying a Sharpie pen on it. Will that stick to the metal?

My supports are doing something similar. Both of the hex rods are turning a copper color - about 70%, the rest is still black. One of the slotted supports on the splitter is still dark black and the other has changed to a dirty silver color. I first started noticing the color change after about two months. The car stays covered in an enclosed garage when it is not being driven.
The Sharpie would work for a quick fix, but I don't think it will last. Painting them with Satin Black would be the quickest longer term fix. Powder coating would also work but would be $$ unless you are set up to do it yourself.

My turnbuckles had a copper hue to them when first installed. Hex nuts were bright plated and end fasteners were black.
I did not care for the tri-color look and lightly spray painted matte black (turnbuckle and hex nuts). I think they look pretty good now. At least all are the same color and do not compete with eachother.

Are they anodized? If so they will discolor from the UV light. Even "hard" anodizing will. Powder coating is likely your best bet followed by paint. If you are going to "rattle can" them, use engine enamel. It's the best kind of paint you can generally find for a do-it-yourselfer.
Why the heck are you guys taking your Laguna Secas out of the garage!!! These things are museum pieces and should not be taken outside for any reason!!!
If I have time I'm going to clean mine up tomorrow. I've been driving the heck out of it trying to break it in before a VIR event in October. I could care less what color the splitter struts are. If they fade, it means the car is being used correctly.
