Just kidding (I think). Those code tabs are used in the factory to join the motor with the chassis. Plant workers have scanners which scan each part, which is then compared against that vehicles build sheet.
It's actually pretty cool. If you can, see if you can find the 'Ultimate Factories' on Peterbuilt. They talk a lot about those code stickers and how they are used.
