GRASSHOPPERS!
GRASSHOPPERS!
Went out for my first Sunday drive in several weeks yesterday morning and had a blast. I pulled up at a gas station to fill up and parked next to this car:

The owner was a great guy and we stood around and talked muscle cars for a while.
Then I headed back out to cruise some of my favorite back roads. I got back home to find this:

Apparently I single-handedly decimated the grasshopper population in my area! I immediately took it to a carwash and used the high pressure wash on the front end of the car to get all of them off. Then went home and completed my wash by hand and got her all shined up.
This morning I went into my garage and there was a horrible smell like rotting fish. Checked the trashcan and it wasn't coming from there. Climbed in my Boss and went to run some errands. As I get out of the car at different stops I could smell that fishy smell again. When I got back home I popped the hood and shining a light down the hole around the hood latch I could see hundreds more grasshoppers embedded in the radiator and piled in front of it. Looks like I'll be pulling out the ramps and getting the service panel off to see if I can get them cleaned out!

I had that experience in Montana a couple of years ago. When I got to my destination in SD, the front end of my S2000 was yellow. I also took mine to a car wash and was able to get it decent looking. The hilarious thing is that when I got back home (Western Washington) I took it in for an oil change. The tech was vacuuming carcases out of the engine compartment when one of them jumped out on his own.
Follow-up. Took me 2 hours to get the rest of the grasshoppers cleaned out of my radio and from behind my grill. Had to drive the car up on ramps and almost disassemble the entire front end to get them all!
By the looks of that MOPAR's front grill and bumper, you shoulda got a yellow Boss. The grasshoppers seem to blend in better. LOL! But I'm kinda partial to RR too.

Getting them cleaned off ASAP is the key. I do not have a clear bra but I've been noticing new 3M Paint Defender commercials which looks like a do it yourself kind of thing. Going to look into that. Anyone have any experience with it?
No personal experience, but I have been recently researching a lot of clear bra alternatives and what I have read about the clear defender is that you absolutely must ensure that EVERYTHING is taped off to ensure there is zero overspray on stuff you don't want coated, as the overspray is a major pain to remove.
You are correct sir grasshoppers do suck but over in the dilley tx area where i am working its the little yellow butterflies.. I have a race red as well and those nasty lil suckers sure can make a mess of a wash job!
