GoPro Camera Mounting

Can anybody give advice on mounting a video camera, specifically the GoPro, inside the car? The logical location on the base seats would be the headrest supports that go into the seat. However, my car has the Recaros. I haven't attempted to mount the camera yet, but no sense reinventing the wheel if somebody has already tried it.

Thanks in advance.

How about a window? The way I understand it, the GoPro has a suction cup for attaching to just about any surface. If not, I know Sticky Pods do, that's what I've used in the past for in-car camera work...

True, this is certainly an option.

I'm wondering if there is another option, one that will keep the camera more towards the center of the car. Now that I think about it though, has anybody mounted one to the rear window. That may be a possibility.

Let us know how that works. I guess you could use an iPhone to shoot video in car.

I have a gopro and have mounted on the rear and front windows using the suction cup that it comes with. On the rear, the cabin is the real focus, so I would recommend it for drag racing. Otherwise I mounted it just to the right of the rear view mirror towards the top and it gives a great view of the road and the hood.

Yeah my iP4 takes surprisingly good video. Please post a photo when you have it mounted.

Mounting to the headrests is not a good idea -- next time you're on some rough roads, watch how much the seats move, they're not rigid in the least. Suction cup mounting to rear backlight just above the parcel shelf, and using the parcel shelf as additional bracing, is best for cabin shots, or to the windshield for road shots. If you're doing the iphone option, consider a Magellan or Garmin GPS-boosting mount -- plugs in and continually charges the phone, acts as a speakerphone, etc. I use the TrackPro software for it, great for timing laps at the roadcourses.

i have a go pro and its great, but i bought harrys lap timer for my iPhone mostly because it will overlay data on the video and has an map of the tracks i will be on. the iPhone 4 does hd video too. i got a ram mount for the set up and will use it inside the car at my track day the 11th. the pro version of harry's lap timer will even read obd data if you have a bt adapter. very slick for $15/

I have the app, it's great, but I'm not mounting the iPhone in the windshield, it's too distracting and in my way when looking into corners.

Dave had recommended this to me before. It has all the local tracks so I'll be buying this before my first track day.

Looks like either of these dongles should work.

I mount the suction cup to the passenger side dash with the camera lens just above the dash pad. Perfect spot. Not the top of the dash, the verticle smooth surface. It stays put and with image stabilization, no vibration or blurred video at all. GoPro is a great camera.

The mount from RAM is, by far, the most robust windshield mount.

That looks nice. It doesn't look like it would block the lens.

I just downloaded the app.

Put a roll cage in it then use an IO Port cage mount

Seriously though I am thinking the windshield may be the best option for recaro cars Gonna need to run a second camera to get steering/driver shots for picture-in-picture.
