Galpin building widebody Boss 302 for SEMA
Not my taste but I can sure appreciate what creative folks can do in the garage and I love the ability to make a car just the way you (or some crazy person with lots of cash) wants it.
Ahhh, man.... me no likey.
What the Boss 302 has done is to prove that Ford "gets it"... and they "get it" better than GM, Chrysler, and most of the imports. The "get it" is that the magic is in the sum of all of the parts to make a great PACKAGE. THAT's what we have in the Boss!! GM is out there selling Camaros that handle like pigs. Dodge is selling Challengers that are easy on the eyes but don't do anything particularly well except cruise down the blvd. Conversely, BMW "gets it" too with the M3.... delivering an awesome complete package albeit at a price point that many cannot afford. So, hat's off to Ford for setting their sites on the lofty M3... and bettering the performance for about 60% of the price. (Please don't diss the M3 until you've been to a road course and witness both the popularity and the performance level that the M3 delivers.)
Anyway, back on point.... the Boss is about the balance of all the components to deliver something that is truly great. So, then you have the tuners offering their blowers for the Boss. What for? I suppose there's a market for people who want to have the bling for their weekly car show. Bring one of those blower cars to the road course - and you're going to be sorely disappointed. Same is true for Galpin's project here. What's the point??? Looks kinda pretty, IMO.... but it really doesn't enhance the performance one iota. A blower? Why? Buy a GT500 and kick the crap outa the Boss in a straight line.
But I really do know the answer to the "why" question. I suppose people will buy it. I suppose people will buy SC's for their Bosses too. No disrespect at all to those that want to go down these paths... but I'll still scratch my head and ask if THEY really "get it".
