Is the engine worth it over a standard GT?

for example, the C&D Lightning Lap; there was about a 6 second difference between the GT and Boss. I wonder how much of that was suspension and tires vs. the motor?
Depends on how the GT was configured, tires can account for alot.

If the GT had all-season tires that alone would account for a big difference in its LL time, if it had summer tires then the gap due to rubber would be less so and more dependent on the Boss car's suspension and engine.

Its really not a 10k difference...as you also get the "track pack" included in the price of the Boss. More like a $5k difference, not factoring in any discounts.

Bob if I remember correctly the LL was done with a Brembo car. I remember reading this and the M3 was 4 seconds faster than the Brembo car, but the M3 was two seconds slower than the Boss, however, the M3 was not a ZCP car (competition package).

My GT is an '11, but compared to the Boss, it does feel like it runs out of steam on the top end. The Boss just feels like a consistent pull to redline. The Boss engine is worth every penny IMO.

But based on your use and color preference, I think you should get the GT. My GT is my track car, and I'm not afraid to modify it at all. If I waited for the '13, I would probably have gotten a stripped down track pack GT and kept my '03 Cobra.

I had the same choice to make. I drove 200 miles to look at a SBY Boss, and the dealer was going to give me a decent deal. The deal breaker for me was the options that weren't available and the fact that I could rake in $5K in discounts with a GT with track pack. The Boss engine is awesome, but for a primary street car, not a must have. If you do plan mods, the Boss motor is as tough as they come.

For what its worth, I have a Boss 302 and my friend has a GT, both 2012. Her first comment after going for a ride was "Yeah, your engine sounds way better". I know sound alone isn't worth 10k, but the engine is really different, and I think worth it.

Having the old Gt motor, then modded, and now a modified variant of the boss 302 roadrunner in the car, I can fully say the roadrunner is worth the difference.

There's a huge difference between a coyote with a boss 302 intake thrown on it and a roadrunner, I've been very surprised to see that so far, and I haven't been able to romp on the car past 5k
