The Canadian Boss Experience.

I feel really dis-heartened with my experience with Ford Canada in regard to the purchase of my 2012 Boss Mustang. First Ford Canada seemingly gouged Canadian consumers on the price. The car was 41k in US, 49 here. Never mind the ridiculous ADMs some dealers put on the car. I'm fine with that if they add value somehow, or help you snag a car. But I walked my purchase into a dealer who knew nothing about the car in August of 2010. I'm not alone in having done this. Come November when the order books opened I get told there will be a 15K ADM on an already inflated price. Fortunately I was able to find a dealer with a more reasonable markup. However my desire to get the first Canadian car was now compromised. In any case, colours and options were not known, so I opted for what was known, a Kona Blue car, all options. Luckily I said ALL, because some ordered the Recaros expecting the Torsen to be included as it was announced only to later find out they were offered separately in Canada. The cars were marketed as coming with a Track Day, a Special Owners Kit, and a optional Red Trackey that altered 600 parameters from the race version. The Trackey was finally delivered in November 2011, in a possibly watered down version as a result of CARB holding up the process. Fine, every Boss Owner suffered the same fate. But just weeks before that, the Track Day we were all promised was suddenly no longer available to Canadians. We were told Ford Canada had opted out of the program. Only those Canadians who had booked their dates prior to this announcement managed to pay their own expenses to Miller Motorsports Park in Utah and enjoy 2 days of Boss Track Time and training on Ford. Those of us that waited to book will now not get one on either side of the border. Again all Ford communication up to this point mentioned all Boss Owners, without exception. In fact there was never any geographical exception nor separate Canadian marketing material for the Boss at this point, 9 months after deliveries of the car began. It was just before this time that we were alerted to the contents of the Boss Owners Kit, a package ALL Boss owners would be getting before Christmas. And it was just this past week owners started posting online about receiving their kits and its contents. I thought to ask if ALL Boss owners were getting the kits, or would Canadians be exempt, fearing the worse. We were assured by a Customer Service rep that ALL Boss owners would indeed be receiving the kits only to be told days later that in fact Ford Canada had decided to play Scrooge and opt out of this program as well. When I bought my Boss I indicated an interest in purchasing a Ford Feista for the upcoming winter as well. More than a decade after giving up on Domestics, Ford engineers and product planners had brought me back to the brand. Ford engineers I met at the Detroit Auto Show in the beginning of the year and again at Mustang Alley during the Woodward Dream Cruise helped ensure this with their enthusiasm and help. There would be no 6th BMW, nor another Foreign car purchase in my future as I decided instead to support jobs here in Canada (The Boss 302 Motor is made in Canada) especially in light of living in Oakville where Ford of Canada resides. Well not only did Ford Canada loss the sale of a Fiesta to that of a Mazda 2, they have lost the upcoming replacement of my wife's Dodge Journey with a Flex most likely to another Foreign brand. Ford Canada, and it's dealers are unravelling Ford Corporate's hard work with greed which is not only shortsighted, but on some levels false advertising. Sure, you can say they made no claims, but they also made no counter claims allowing Ford Corporate to do the hard selling for them. This is not only a story for the automotive press, but one for the Business press on how not to market to and treat a customer. The Boss 302 is a halo car, but here in Canada that halo is now tarnished.

At least my plate "Bad Boss" seems appropriate in my ways than one, perhaps also being a reference to the President of Ford of Canada.

This is just my opinion, but I didn't buy my Boss for the track key, track day, owners package. I bought it for the car. I have that now, and I'm just fine with it. If I got an owners package, cool, but I'm super happy just to have this car.

With my Mustangs stored for 50% of the year, the total ownership experience is as important as the car.

I can feel your frustration with some of these issues. Having my car overseas prevents me from getting TracKey at the moment, had it been available at purchase the dealer would have programmed prior to shipping. Also, since the Owner's Package is being send via UPS it is going to the dealer who will in turn ship it to me. During shipping my car cover managed to be removed from the trunk. However, all of those issues faded away when I drove it for the first time. Now everything else is just icing.

Move to a place that doesn't have winter for more than 3 months

I would contact Larry Nurse at Ford Canada and ask for some clarification.

lnurse@ford.com

He will likely do what he did for me and just tell you to wait, but the more that contact the better we might get results.

I guess we should not expect Ford to meet their commitments.

it's always a bummer when expectations are not met. sounds like some bad communication on Ford Canada's part. Ford's not perfect...but they're making great strides...so maybe give 'em another chance?
if we're not careful, they could go the way of the Canadian auto manufacturers.

I too bought my car to own a Boss. But it does anger me to be screwed over be Ford of Canada. I was looking forward to the Track Attack but I sure as hell ain't paying for it out of my pocket (It's like paying for it twice since I consider it part of the purchase price of my car).

I will NOT buy another Ford, that will be my revenge and it will cost Ford of Canada far more than the owners pack and track day would've cost them.

I still love the car and with the amazing mild weather we are still having here in Canada I actually had my car out on monday! Ford can go belly up for all I care or for all it will effect me.

Yeah I'm sure all the Canadian auto workers at Ford plants and the ones that work for suppliers feel the same way.

I too am incensed at this carp, and it doesn't even affect me since I bought my car in the U.S. I am actively dissuading any of my friends and family from buying Ford. It really is an insult to our intelligence that Ford of Canada could be so cheap. FoC could at least use all that coin to make the customer experience better. To top it off, Customer Service in Canada is a pale shadow of that in the U.S. In the States, a CS person is on the phone in seconds. In Canada I have had to wait 20 minutes to talk to someone. For 8k$ more per car. We could have a CS agent for every 5 Boss owners.

Is there a way you can channel that energy into making an online petition you can share with Ford Canada. I believe you may have some support from your fellow Ford Owners, maybe there is power in numbers.

I feel pretty much the same way about my whole experience with Ford. I past on a used GT3 to get the Boss and I regret it. I consider myself a car guy and will give my trust to any car makers if the product seem to fill my need.

The car is good on it's own right, Ford didn't need all those gimmick to attract buyers.

The fact that I had to learn all this on an online forum instead of Ford contacting us or our dealer just make things worse.

Sadly, Ford is now on my blacklist.

(paragraphs for Whammer)

Fenderaddict2, I agree with you as well and think you and your Canadian owners certainly have been shortchanged. The cost of the Track Attack program is dialed into each and every Boss sold so you are definitely not getting any additional value for the dollars you spent for your vehicle, especially when you consider ADM's as well. Someone (Ford Canada, or the dealer or FoMoCo) certainly made a higher margin on the Canadian shipments by "opting out" of what you paid for.

I am sure none of us owners specifically bought our Ford vehicles for Track Attack, Owners Package, Boss Key chain or Track Key, but they are nice supplementals. Enjoyed by owners in the US if we want (Miller) or if we pay (TK). To exclude Canadian owners from some of these options of ownership (you can purchase TK) is yet another faux pas the Boss marketing people rolled out. And they just keep on coming further damaging (IMO) the aura of this modern halo offering. Especially in light of the Canadian content in the delivered product and the level of engineering sophistication in the vehicle. It just amazes me how Allison Revier just does not "get it".

And Absent although Ford is not quite on my "black list", having purchased 5 Ford products in the last 5 years, my future vehicle additions will consider other auto makers. Although the vehicles perform to expected levels, the Corporate Marketing and Corporate customer treatment with this offering has to be ranked in the lowest decile which is really saddening.

That's a joke! Ford just shut down their plant outside of my city (Ford Talbotville) and laid off all those workers. Ford doesn't give a crap about Canada and is looking to move as many plants to the US as they can.
So why should I be concerned about Ford? Forget them. They've gotten enough of my money and in future they will not get anymore.
