Cam upgrade to my boss
Cam upgrade to my boss
Thinking about the comp stage three cams and everything to go with it, headers tune, etc. i have done some cam swaps on pushrod engines in the past but have never even pulled the valve covers on an overhead cam engine. So my question is how hard is it? Seems fairly straight forward almost like it would be easier than a pushrod set up but i dunno. So whats yalls opinion harder or easier?
Were you reading my mind?
I meet with Tim @ TrueStreet in Mckinney, TX after I read this thread:

Tim has done a FEW 5.0 cam swaps BUT not a Boss yet.
I don't know if I can afford right now...tax time coming fast for me...
I would talk with Tim.

In for you spending the money and reporting the results to us
Thats kinda what i was thinking. I was thinking you could maybe put something around the chain to keep them tight like a cable tie then once the cams are in and bolted back i place just remove it. I dunno tho. I think im going to by an engine manual so i can do some more reasearch.
So no one has done a diy cam swap in their boss?? May be im pioneering new uncharted ground here. So i will try and post lots of pics and videos as i get started. I have some parts ordered all ready and will order longtubes next then the cams to follow. Ill let you guys know a degree (pun intended) of diff.
I plan on doing cams in the future. I want to get 500 na rwhp. I will doing them my self so your vids and pics would be a great help. I do believe you are pioneering on cams in the boss I Caint believe a mag or performance company hasn't done it. But I would think it would be the same process and the GT motor and I know that has been done. Good luck and hope it goes smooth
I had my cams swapped out in my pick up years ago and they marked the chain and gear with a dab of paint, they did secure it so it didn't move. I believe that's how the instruction were written up too.

Well i am in no hurry hence the research now. But i deff plan on doing this this year. I already have some parts and will be ordering more over the next few weeks. Then will decide to order the cams and where to my tune is one of the bigger decisions. The tune is everything!!!! Dont wanna chose the wrong one if ya do your either leaving hp on the table or blowing an engine!!

I haven't done it on a Boss, but I have done a double overhead cam in a miata. I know, different but the principals are the same. There should be timing marks. When you pull the cam covers off, hand rotate the motor over until the timing marks are lined up. Then pull the cams. Reinstall the new ones with the marks also lined up. Just make sure the motor doesn't get rotated at all when you are taking apart or putting back together.
Of course that may be completely wrong but that's the way I'd go about it.

They have been done. Saw a white one 683 rwhp. Chris @big power racing can give you a great deal on a pro charger. I got quoted 8500$ all done and installed complete. Not bad i started saving already lol. This WILL be my first supercharged car
