Boss Owners, I need confidence!

Boss Owners, I need confidence!
Tomorrow I am flying to Florida to check out a Boss that I put a deposit on through Ebay. I have every reason so far to believe the guy is on the level, as I have spoken with him on the phone and has a very reasonable story for selling the car, though it only has 156 miles on it. He has also been very good at returning all my communication and even been so nice as to have a copy of the Boss 302 book signed by the author for me, and send me pictures of it. But, its a LOT of money for me, and a DREAM come true. So, as I check out the car, do you have any advice for things to look for? Any worries about counterfeiting, ie, replacing the motor with a stocker and dressing it up like a Boss? The intake manifold is obvious, but what about what about the heads under the coil covers? What about the block and internal components? Is there VIN plates on components that I could look for, or other identification? After all, there are all kinds of people out there, and who knows what they will do to make a buck. Thanks for any advice

Check the VIN, it should have a 'U' code for the 8th digit.
If you are not comfortable with the sale, don't buy it.
Also, check the other exclusive features that come on the Boss, wheels, painted roof, seats, door sills, etc.

Thank you both for your advice. The car has all the visual cues of a Boss, from the pictures, and I will of course check the VIN, but I was just wondering if anyone had heard of people doing something like Hertz rent-a-racer swap, by swapping out the motor or components and then making it appear to be a Boss. After all, as many of you are probably are aware, what makes the Boss 302 motor isn't just a different intake manifold.

Thank you, where do I get into Fords service records? He says his kid is a college student and needs a car, so he was going to trade this in to get him one, but decided to see what he could get on Ebay first.

Take the time to bring to a local Ford dealer with the owner and have it checked out. Someone would have to go through a lot of trouble and money to clone a BOSS. Not like it is worth another $50K.

Example, I can go to my local dealer dealer and enter the vin, and they can give me the complete history of my truck and all the repairs and oil changes.

It would cost more to Clone a BOSS than to buy a BOSS. I would think the tune would need to be changed because of different cams from each type of engine.
I would be more concerned with Damage repair myself. Get it on a lift and look that car over thuroughly.

Look up the sticker. Just put the VIN here:

At least you'll know how it was delivered. That and throughy check the car (maybe a PPI) and probably wouldn't hurt to do a Carfax...

Thanks guys. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow to have Trackey activated so it will be back at the dealership anyway. I looked at it today and have no worries anyway. It is remarkable! Not a hint of concern about the seller either. I think I can rest easy now, except that first rock chip WILL undoubtedly happen and it will be my fault.
