Boss 302; Too gaudy, or not gaudy enough?
Boss 302; Too gaudy, or not gaudy enough?
So when I first heard about the Boss, the only colours I knew of where those shown in the debut event at Laguna Seca. The Laguna Seca models were far too tarted up, and the Orange was not intense enough, so I figured I'd have the Blue and White one, which happened to be closest to the racing version I had seen from'69. Of course I had yet to see Yellow, White or Red cars. Seeing the cars in the flesh for the first time in Cobo Hall, I felt pretty good about my pick. The Orange was on dyno display along with both LS cars, and the Blue simply looked best under the harsh lights of the convention centre. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I realize my car is somewhat boring. In fact it is only the much maligned white roof that makes it stand out at all. The Orange car simply pops. And the Laguna Seca in Black and Red sitting on the track at Mosport looks like it absolutely belongs there. So forget for a moment all those tone on tone understated Photoshop threads popping up, and help me imagine how to make my car more obnoxious, more "racy", if you will. I'm thinking the Red LS wheels might just make my car into the ultimate American Superhero. Your thoughts?
I was thinking white wheels, but then I started playing with Ford's online car configurator thingy. You can make some pretty crazy combos like yellow with white stripes. Only a Canadian would buy that thing ;-)
I like white wheels on a car like this. But I loved the old Foxes with white wheels.
The key for me is that everyone including me has black wheels or gunmetal or something of that nature, but nobody has white. Give it 5 years and everyone will have something else. Who knows? Maybe white wheels will be in. But I like it for the Kona and the white stripes and roof. Especially because it's supposed to be a race car.
If I had it it's what I would do, but I need another Mustang like I need another kid.

That's funny if whoever "made" those pictures is claiming credit for them. That is the exact output of the "Build Yours" feature on Ford's website when it first featured the Boss. The wheel combinations were reversed between Street and LS. All this dip**** did was take screencaps of that back then and put his name on it.

That's exactly what this "dip****" did. It is the Ford Configurator. I saved all the variations then mixed and matched to my hearts content. Only I still messed up and repeated one image. It should have been this assortment of mixing and matching...

Oh ok sorry, just as long as you're not claiming this as original work. The license plate is good, though!
No claim on originality; that belongs to Ford no matter what colours we play with (or Gulf if I was to play with my favs). However, I may be shopping it in this colour combo for some client sponsorship. Cheaper than the the paint and photoshop work that would be required to make it stand out even more at the track. And no worries, I get called far worse than dip**** at least once a week in my line of work.
5 DOT 0, that's what I was originally thinking. But the blue only ever pops like that under indoor lighting. I'd like to see this combo in natural light. Nice PS work BTW.
I didn't do the PS work, another member here did it for me. More here:

I had a 1991 Taurus SHO that was all white with white wheels. It looked nice and I received a lot of compliments on it. But the wheels were a PITA to keep clean.

FWIW the wheels on the LS are Race Red
I'm not digging the red wheels on Kona.
White wheels would be much better. It's somewhat of a mystery to me why Ford left the rear spoiler and wheels painted black on the cars with the white stripes.

I like it! (The red wheels on the Kona) Reminds me of the SVTPP Kona GT500, which I love!
